network based "broadcast"/"receive"

Thinking out loud--

most applications these days can do some sort of network based communications.  Would it not be useful in the next version of scratch to permit some sort of IP based network communication?  Even if it just worked over a single subnet (i.e. with IP broadcasts), it could be good for kids to learn.
