How to start on the Scratch Forums

Don't know what something means? Here's you guide to help what some forum stuff means:

1) tl:dr means "Too Long, I didn't read it."

2) Quoting something like this:

the dude your quoting wrote:

Something you agree with

and then just posting the quote by itself means someone agrees with it. +1 also means this.

3) Some words are censored on Scratch, so when you see a * it means the word is censored. Words like * * and * are censored. Ha, fooled you  lol

4) Typing in stuff like this: : l o l : without spaces gives you smilies like this  lol  Some are : rolleyes :, and : mad : and those make  roll  and  mad

I've seen grand and weak entrances to the Scratch community before so this is a little guide to help you make a splash on your first time here.

MY TIPS wrote:

TIP #1 - Do NOT try to make yourself look cool by intimidating everyone. We accept new members and will not think wrong of you.

TIP #2 - Be nice. Your first impression will have the most impact on people. Make sure it's the one you want, and hopefully that will be being nice.

TIP #3 - Try not to disagree with everyone. It only starts flame wars, which is just a giant never ending argument.

TIP #4 - You always want to have good grammar, you will see that good grammar makes people respect you more. Not having grammar doesn't make you any cooler.

TIP #5 - Posting a lot is not the key to success. Don't think people will like you if you have a lot of posts, they will remember what you said in those posts.(while more posts gives you some respect because you may be experienced).

TIP #6 - Nobody likes a wise guy. Try to refrain from always being negative and being sarcastic all the time. It leaves a bad mark.

TIP #7 - Reputation is key here. Making productive posts while still sharing your opinion will leave others respecting you more on the forums.

Have fun on the Scratch Forums and treat others how you would like to be treated.

RESPECT THE MODS.

NEVER start off your first introduction post with "SUP Y'ALL!!!" - it makes a bad impression  wink

@rule4: when i started i talked like this (look at some of my old posts in closed topics (closed because i edited ones that were open  tongue ) ) but then I learned to use proper grammar.
@rule6: Sometimes I'm a bit too negative.  sad
@rule7: Exactly.

I have grammar. AND punctuation. I just got used to it because I type a lot in my projects and people always spazz out if they see a spelling mistake.

maybe you should look up spazz, as spazz is the correct spelling of the word.

SpriteMaster, missed a rule. You should say also DO NOT spam. That's a key rule here too, I would imagine.

Absolutely not.
Disagreeing respectfully and maturely is completely tolerated here.

Not true. Stereotyping isn't cool.

Not everyone here has the same goals.

The fact that you're calling your guide "tips" is irrelevant. It doesn't give you an excuse you falsely educate new members with your misinformed belief system, I'm afraid.

Also, dismissing my advice by saying "I dont really care" is sort of rude, and it happens to go against Rule #4 of yours ("dont" should have an apostrophe).

Not setting a very good example for newer members here, now are we?
