And I thought you can't save anything in Classic
So that amazing creation goes bye-bye, right? You can save if you legally bought the game.
Which I did.
You can also use the save file option, saving it as, say, "base.mine"

Classic minecraft is lame compared to beta. let's look at what you made. Now imagine if you could have waterfalls and streams in it. Imagine if you could add lighting so at night, it looked like only the buildings are lit up. All that stuff, can't be done.
Your only reason that you hate beta apparently is that you hate actually working towards a goal instead of having the resources handed to you.

I've been playing creative much more than beta now. Everything is lit, and you have infinite blocks!
And even with too many items, you have to wait for blocks to break when you hit them.
Singleplayer Commands has a command for instant mining.

Classic isn't lame. Beta isn't lame. Classic is better for people who want to create things without the hassle, while Beta is for people who want an epic survival game.

Well, people don't want to slave over their computers for hours mining and mining and mining all those materials. Not all creations take under 5 minutes of work, you know. I made something that took half an hour.

It takes five minutes to download a simple inventory editor.

I never really thought Minecraft classic was lame.
Did you use a sponge block for the water tunnel?
Beta + TooManyItems mod = Classic minecraft + mobs and more blocks and items.

He means to get the water out of the tunnel before you built it.
