I was searching something for a project I'm making, and found an inappropriate song in the results. Not only that, but it also showed all the lyrics to it. To make sure there wasn't anything else like this, I tried searching "eminem."
... It turns out there's tons of inappropriate songs on Scratch. This needs to be fixed.

3 A.M. I assume.
Yo, not all Em's songs are inappropriate. Only some. (Some are censored.)
I was thinking of putting one of the f* songs in one of my projects, but the clean (censored) version of course. Like low in the background.

In my opinion, it doesn't matter if the words are censored. If you can tell what was originally there, it's still inappropriate. Also, a song doesn't necessarily have to have swearing to be inappropriate. Some songs just have a bad... style. I'm not sure how to put it. Of course, there's also songs that are written in a sort "coded" language, and although they don't have bad words, they mean something inappropriate.

Censored and 'coded' songs would only be flagged if it is bad for the younger users to hear, but if it doesn't say anything explicitly, then they wouldn't understand it anyway. And about the style, you can't really flag a project because the music doesn't suit your taste. But if you see a song with inappropriate language it in, then you should report it.

Flag any projects with inappropriate songs.

Hmm... that does seem to be a problem. Of course, the mods can't do anything about a project they don't know about, so if you see a project with an inappropriate song, flag it!
^This.
There's close to 2 million projects on the site and it's hard to look at them all - hence why we have functions that allow us to report questionable content to the Scratch Team.
If something is out on the website that shouldn't be on there (inappropriate content, disrespectful remarks, SEO spam, etc.) and it has been on there for a long time, then, to a certain degree, we are just as responsible for allowing such things to take place when we fail to flag/report it. So just flag things when you feel it needs Scratch Team's attention. It's always best to nip a problem in the bud than letting it continue to fester around.

Hear, hear! I agree 100%.

I totally agree! Sometimes the projects are really neat but the songs are inappropriate... I think people are almost afraid to flag it as inappropriate just because its the music, not the actual project. I will admit, in my first month or two of Scratching, I saw some projects with inappropriate music but was afraid to flag it because it might not have been that big of a deal.

Or they could just not post it. Just because they put a warning doesn't mean kids will listen to the warning.
Maybe projects with certain words in the title/project notes should automatically have to go through moderation before being viewable. It seems this is already happening with comments, as one of the things I commented was automatically deleted. (I have no idea why)
By the way, there's a lot of music out there that's way more awesome than rap and stuff.

Sheesh it may be okay for some of us, but Scratch is for other people too. >_>

Unfortunately, that's easier said than done. There's a lot of false positives with the current censor system, and there are also a lot of cases where words from one language can be seen as swear words in another language. (Not to mention the number of project the site gets everyday that such a system might put a heavy tax on the server, let alone moderation staff). So it's not exactly a practical system considering what we have to work with.
Just flag the projects with inappropriate lyrics, that's really the easy fix to this problem in consideration to the moderation system that is in place.

how about people who do this put a warning sign coded onto their projects

That doesn't work. Projects have to be appropriate for everyone. Just because you put up a warning doesn't make it okay. I think I already said this.

Well, the user might not listen to the song much, so you should give them a kind warning before flaging so they can fix the problem. And also, some people think things are innaproprite that the user doesn't.

Solution (maybe not for songs but for text): Make a text filter on Scratch. Anything inappropriate, it doesn't go on the site. Simple.
There is one.

Simple answer to all your questions. Nothing good to post, post nothing at all.

What does this have to do with the topic?

If you don't have an appropriate song to post, don't post a song at all.
