Well after being at the awesome Scratch Meetup at 20 Ames St. Cambridge MA, I think it was a good way to use up a Saturday Morning =P. So first I got there a bit late at 10:30 (because of my sloth mom lol) and I saw everywhere desks with lots of laptops and computers. I dropped my jaw and thought..."...Wow, this will be FUN". So I registered and put on a name tag saying "Lucario621 aka Chris" and got a nice pen and paper, and on the first side of the paper there was the Schedule:
10:00-10:30
Find someone who... (read more)
10:30-10:45
Welcome from the MIT Scratch Team
10:45-12:00
Community interactions and Scratch show-and-tell
12:00-1:00
Lunch (and more fun)
And on the other side it said:
Find someone who...
Get to know other local Scratchers by finding a different person to sign each block on your page. Return you completed page by 12:00 to be entered in a drawing for a Scratch messenger bag. or a t-shirt or Scratch Board.
Then there were 9 boxes saying:
-...has at least 4 Scratch projects posted online. (easy...atleast i'd expect it to be)
-...knows who Gobo is. (the cute little orange alien guy)
-...has used the broadcast block. (not that popular block but I still "used" it)
-...helps people learn Scratch. (Giving knoledge is awesome!)
-...has been Scratching for more than a year (count me in!)
-...posts to the Scratch forums.
-...has never been to the Media Lab before (well not until today...)
-...has used a Scratch sensor board (I will!!! Hopefully at least...)
-...is a member of the MIT Scratch Team. (Oh boy, who to choose, well of course the cool Jay!)
Well I didn't bother because I didn't know you could get anything other then a messanger bag because it didn't say so (you stupid people!). Anyway after meeting some people like Orange20 and Jay and mres and andresmh, there was a small announcement from 10:30 to 10:45 saying who are the people that started Scratch, and a long (somewhat interesting) speech about how scratch started and why they did it and whats it about. So I got to meet some cool people like the amazing jay and other people. So on the small tiny white macintosh laptop there was Scratch and the Scratch website so I showed some stuff like my SSBB stuff and Mouse Recorder (which suprisingly suprised them) and I saw a ball game which you move the ball through the maze by tilting the laptop, and a nice touchscreen computer. So being myself (which is very nice), I helped some people, and then, the raffle results started. So I saw some people won the items, and then I had lunch! So there I said "What is the smell that I smell? Pizza I smell? What a wonderful Smell!!!" So I had 2 slices of cheese pizza and a can o' sprite "Ahhh..." and helped some people some more =P. Then I saw this kid was playing this piano that I didn't notice, so after he was done I played the Super Mario Bros. Theme and the Zelda Underworld theme and thats when the real crowd came. Ya see, I know what music scratchers like, VIDEOGAME MUSIC LOL! So Jay and andresmh complemented me and videotaped me which i'll remember the rest of my life lol, and I had a oreo and headed home! Right here! So overall this was a very fun time and just about anybody would have enjoyed it. What did you like if you came?

Sounds cool. What Scratchers besides the Scratch Team did you meet?

I would have gone just for the free pizza if it was closer to where I live. I hope they do a Toronto meetup.

I can't believe I missed this... I have the same feeling now that I was having while the conference was going on and I was missing it. Maybe next time, though.

it's a public group on flickr, so you can add pictures of the meetup if you have them.
