question about silver and computers (random question)

ok I did a report on silver and I read it has a higher electric conductivity then copper, so I was wondering is actually possible to create a silver wired computer? no, I'm not making one, I'm just wondering because that would mean data rates would be even faster, however it would incredibly expensive (if it's a top notch comp. it should be about $20000 maybe, dunno the price of silver and how much copper is used in computers)

Re: question about silver and computers (random question)

The real speed issues are inside the processors, which are primarily silicon, so I suspect substituting copper for silver would have a negligable effect.

Re: question about silver and computers (random question)

Yep. Silver is indeed the best conductive metal. Copper alloys and aluminum are the most common types of interconnects in semiconductors, but some people have used silver in a "damascene" process (which is named after the  way they made swords in Damascus, and which you can Google for more info). The speed of modern semiconductors is limited by a lots of things, electrical conductivity being just one factor.
