Does anyone know when the new version of Scratch is coming out?

It's been one version for two years, so I'd think the Sratch team would be releasing a new version soon?

Re: Does anyone know when the new version of Scratch is coming out?

Scratch 2.0 will be a complete remake in a new programming language and tons of new features, so it is taking a while. It should be out sometime later this year though.  smile

Is there any list of potentially new features?

There are plans for block-creating and maybe mesh.

Get out. There's no need for that. ~Kaj Aliv

Block-making is a definite yes; I don't think mesh is happening. (The ST hasn't expressed any possiblity of this happening.) They're planning quite a few new features actually, including improvements to the site and ways to make it easier to collaborate on projects, as well as possible integration with online services like Twitter.

Re: Does anyone know when the new version of Scratch is coming out?

i am excited for the new scratch because some of what i need is not here. Are they still gonna have blocks or is it gonna be a written code because i still will need this script to do what i need-

[blocks]<when green flag clicked><forever><if><key[left arrow]pressed?><change{ scrollX }by(5[/blocks] [blocks][blocks]<when green flag clicked><forever><if><key[right arrow]pressed?><change{ scrollX }by(-5

You know for scrolling  big_smile   and what will the mesh part do? (sorry if you didnt want the blocks i am new at forms but definetly NOT new at scratch  big_smile )

Scratch 2.0 will definitely still be block-based. Don't worry; despite the rewrite, Scratch is still holding it's goal of being easy to learn for anyone.

As a side note, most people don't use the forum blocks because they're messy and difficult to get your point across with. The best way is either to post plain-text scripts with the [code] tag or make the script in Scratch, save the script by right-clicking and selecting "save image of scripts" and uploading it to an image hosting site.

Re: Does anyone know when the new version of Scratch is coming out?

Scrolling will not be integrated because not all projects are games, and not all games are the kinds of games that scroll. Sorry, but you're still going to have to keep on manually making scroll. Even though it could be in animations, and simulations too, it would confuse the new Scratchers too much.

Well, they're gonna have show and hide list blocks. Oh! and the scratch program can be online too.

If you go ahead into the scratch team blog, over at LINK.

They have posted some new features there. If my memory doesn't fail, they also have a few demos.  big_smile
