Eight Bit Projects

(Yes, I am very aware that there was already an 8 bit music thread that died out last year. This is a revival-type of it)

I've been scratching for 3 years now (under a different username, remember Tom_?) and have seen what scratch can do. It's obviously extremely capable and can do everything from simple music composition to whole operating systems.

Why, though, in all of our glory, haven't we taken the time to create a slew of 8 bit music and games?
I mean, we have the technology to, and if you think about it, it would be pretty * fun.

It wouldn't have to be just recreations of old NES/GB games (SMB, pokemon, Duck Hunt, etc) but also original games?

It would be fun and rewarding.

So if we get at least 6 people on the team (not including me) it would be a step in the right direction.  big_smile

*third party software that's helpful in 8 bit recreating*
(post some that you know of as well that haven't been listed!)
FREE:
GIMP
PAINT.NET
GXSCC (it's all japanese but if you do a quick google search you'll find it's pretty simple)
Midi files of songs (quick google search should do it, it's perfectly legal being they're all ear transcribed)
NOT SO FREE:
Photoshop
FL Studio
Anything by acoustica (beatcraft, mixcraft)

Re: Eight Bit Projects

I actually love this idea. Just gota couple of midi files and trying them out with GXSCC, downloaded it a little while back for something.

Edit: For original music you could use a program like Anvil Studio which allows you to compose multi-track music then export it as .midi files.

Re: Eight Bit Projects

Great! More people than I thought would join!

Samtwheels: Mind sharing them? There are no stupid ideas.
Markyparky56: GXSCC + MIDI = Godliness
I've been screwing around with midi for a bit, thank god I'm not the only one.
And that website is amhazing
Technoguyx: I've never been able to use Famitracker  sad  If you know what you're doing, go right ahead! I also have the original Game Boy Camera with the sequencer and drum kit, all in 8 bit.
Stor: Ok! What about things like SSB

You're all in the project!

ALSO: If anyone has a DSi, their music player has a spectacular 8-bit music player (plays .MP4s as if they're from the NES). Unfortunately, my sister wished mine to the cornfield. If anyone would be willing to use theirs for the project, that'd be great!
