I don't know why I didn't think of this before, but if you have a metal detector, take it to a beach or some historical area. You might find something valuable. I do this, although I haven't had a chance to take it to the beach yet.

Don't you have to have a license to do something like that?

Nope. Not for the beach anyway. There are some places where you should get permission though.

Buy a box of mars bars or whatever in bulk (good idea to get non-perishable) then sell them for double price at beach or whatever... best to have a very light stall, if a policeman looks your way, pick up your (light) stall and walk away casually. Do the same if someone seems to be dialling someone but has only pressed 3 numbers.
