Exactly. Everytime someone makes a major change in the way we use an operating system, it's dismissed as though it will never work and the old way is so much better. Then 10 years later everyone can't imagine it any other way. And then the cycle repeats.Very true, yet don't you think it slightly ironic that Windows is doing away with the windows feature? Granted it is all fancy with touch screen and everything, but do you happen to have a touch screen monitor? Because I don't. I know they said on the video that it would work with a mouse, but they never should that. Plus he mentioed thumb controls, does this mean that it's all going to be inside one case? Or maybe a wireless screen? Or a touch screen thats wired to a tower?
It's only one video of probably many; we don't know how mouse/keyboard control will work yet. It looks awfully touch-centric, but I don't see how it's fair to say it won't work until you actually see it in action. In other words: don't knock it 'till you try it.
But all we can do is talk about it right now.

Really it never will... have you ever tried doing anything on a touchscreen? HP all-in-ones are the worst computers in the world! Oh well... I'll have to switch to linux or mac when windows destroy their OS...![]()
I'll probably do that, or I just won't upgrade at all.
MS has a habit of stopping support services for outdated OSes...
I still get updates for Vista. Have one waiting right now. XD

There are loads of posts that follow the lines of "Windows isn't Windows anymore".
Well, how come, when Windows XP came out, you didn't say that? Take a look at Windows 1.0. It's totally different from XP. My point is, we change, and things adapt to our change. I'd go a little OCD-ish too, but it's natural for things to develop, to the wrong or to the right.
You're OCD?
1.0 was starting to show the modern "windows" though. (At least, that's what it looks like here XD). 8 is getting rid of them.

You know what I'm really annoyed about? No keyboard. I've spent SIX YEARS memorizing keyboard shortcuts. Then I won't be able to use them. That's unfair.

They supported XP for 10 years. That's a long time for software. You have to give them that.

It looks like they are trying to turn a pc into a tablet. I would like to see my desktop in it. I am excited yet very cautious about how i am going to feel when i use it.

I think the Start Screen thingy should be like a wallpaper, with windows coming on top of it. So then you can have a window-style interface with the benefits of the cooler Start Screen.
But on my XP machine, I can set a webpage as my wallpaper. I just need to make it in JavaScript... What would that be called? Windows XP-and-a-half?

@WindozeNT True.
Isn't this topic getting old? I mean, everybidy seems to have been emphasising the fact that it looks too much like a tablet, too much like Windows Mobile 7, not like Windows anymore, more like Tiles 8, etc. I think we need a break from all this discussion.

You should have read the reply above before writing yours. I said that too many people were emphasising the fact that Windows 8 looks too different. I guess you said that because it was funny though xD

You'll be able to use any browser you want, just like Windows now. What gave you that idea? Personally, I like the look of this, at least more than Windows XP. To be honest, XP is rather ugly.I'd rather have functionality of looks, if it works well, then fine, looks can come later.
Well, same here. I just thought it was ironic he was complaining about appearance when he uses Windows XP.

Microsoft needs to work on improving their file manager and Windows shell, not throwing it out completely because they think people are too dumb to manage their own folders. That said, I think the interface would look awfully snazzy on a tablet.
Agreed. They made some huge improvements in Windows 7 and I really hope that carries over in Windows 8 and beyond.
How DARE you insult Windows XP?!?!? Lol.

We should get Valve to make an operating system.
Steam OS?

There are rumors that Windows 7 will be the last Windows, and this will be a new OS.

The guy in the video said plainly,
"This IS the new version of Windows..."
