I saw the thread "ALLOW Political threads! A petition" by svinnik. It got into a big debate.
I personally decided not to sign this petition for one simple reason: this is a kid's site. If this was a site that was only for older kids and teens, then I would support. But there are some younger users on here that might not be mature enough to participate in casual and friendly debate. I do have very strong opinions about things, so it might help for me if we allowed it, but in general this will create more flames then mixing gas and fire.
But I've got an idea for a possible solution: we create a separate off-site forum for political discussion. It would be for older kids and teens only, and it would have moderators to make sure that policies are followed. And Scratchers who are interested in political discussion could join.
Maybe joj2 beat us to it. But I'm thinking more of an actual forum on PunBB or FluxBB.
So what do you think of this idea? Do you have ideas to make it better? Thanks.

We had politics on scratch before, back when a lot of the current users were younger. Don't get it wrong, there was no fighting involving politics. A religion thread caused the problem and the thing that had to go was Religion and Politics (which seemed like they might start a fight as well since it's another sensitive topic. But it never did). The older users have matured now and I think we should try politics again here before resorting to drastic measures like this.

Interesting point. I really liked the weekend idea you proposed on the other thread.
I wouldn't necessarily call this "drastic measures" though.
