the 120 second rule

for new scratchers, you must wait 360 seconds. it was suposed to stop comercial spamers. but in the past four years, there has been no attempt at comercial spammers. the 360 second rule is good for blocking spamers like me but it also blocks new scratchers, making it harder to become a veteran scratcher. if the rule was cut down to 120 seconds,it would still stop spamers. think about it, you can make popcorn in two minutes.

Re: the 120 second rule

Well, if the word were to get out that you only have to wait two minutes, spammers would flock to Scratch like... um... something that flocks...  tongue  I kinda support, but if spammers do realize they don't have to wait as long, they will probably start spamming up the forums.

-1. I like the 360 rule because it lets you ACTUALLY HAVE A LIFE.

  yikes  Amazing, right? xD

Aside from that, those spammers' violent behavior has only broken New Scratcher's hearts. Spammers, let's just call it a day. But I guess that's not going to happen.

There will be cake when I am a Scratcher. As long as Hex doesn't burn it.

Re: the 120 second rule

What if for the first 2 weeks you had the 360 rule (enough to probably frustrate spammers) and after that (if you haven't already gotten Scratcher status) you get a 120 rule?

If you set the supplies out correctly, it will make the batter, but you have to put the batter in the oven. Then you can run the next program, which makes it go in circles until the cake is done.  VOILA, you have a cake.

May good fortune rule over you, peace live in your heart, and the stars watch over you. (an Elven greeting in the Eragon books)
sorry for the offtopic-ness.

And maybe as a better option so spammers aren't just like: "Ok gonna wait 2 weeks and then SPAMMMMMMMMMMM!"
1) The time period until the 120 rule would be randomly picked from 2-3 weeks.
and
2) They would have to be acitve (of course  tongue  )

Re: the 120 second rule

Trust me, there are commercial spammers, you just don't notice it. The 360 second rule is also to deter flamers, trolls, etc, which can be equally harmful. Personally, I think 6 minutes is much more effective than 2 minutes would be. When spam like that pops up, it gives enough time for it to be reported, removed by a mod, and the user possibly blocked. Even if it took 18 minutes for that to happen, the spammer could only post 3 more times. With a 2 minute rule, they could do 3 times as much damage before it's removed.

Re: the 120 second rule

I don't agree.
Spammers still do come on Scratch and still do occasionally spam the forums. The moving onto 120 after 2 weeks would just make spammers lazy and wait 2 weeks before spamming.

Re: the 120 second rule

The 360sr was once 600 seconds.
and before that it was 1000 seconds.
Maybe you know that already?
But you see, it has been lowered twice. There's no need to do that again.

Well, IMHO the two stages (New Scratcher and Scratcher) are good enough to prevent spam and take the Scratch Team enough time. Number 2 is not easily judged by a computer: one could be actively spamming  tongue

Re: the 120 second rule

Although it may not seem like it, there is still a large amount of commercial spam in the forums. Looking through the Dustbin, I saw 10 accounts banned for commercial spam in the last week.

The 360 seconds helps to limit the amount of post these spammers can make before they can be dealt with by moderators.

The rule also helps protect the forum from malicious attacks of other humans.

This is not to say the rule should not be lessened, but we still face problems that can be dealt with by the 360 second rule.

I actually thought of re-increasing it a tad.
Maybe just for the first day or so it could limit you to 10 posts. That way mods would have plenty of time to clean up their spam.

hey........... That's a good idea! But it would have to start when they make their first post and not the day they join or else it would be:

Spammer: *makes account*
1 day later....
Spamer: spamspamspamspamspamspam
