@chipguy:

I found a nintendo ds game with a really interesting art style. I like the ominous yet beautiful look of the forest. Obviously don't copy this, but maybe keep it in mind or something...  smile

The draft of the script is on the website (the link is at the top of first page) so you can start working on that if you'd like. When you finish your edits, is there a site you could upload the document to? If you can't upload to a website, just paste it into a post here.

As for voice acting, that will have to happen when the script is finished.

Thanks for joining!

Well, i could probably upload it to Fanfiction, Deviantart, or Quizilla. Or also on my own site.

Re: Collab project: Butterfly Tree

Done!

Code:

Scene 1

Leo wakes up, sunny day, forest clearing.
Fi enters, Leo wakes up.

Leo: Who are you? (solemly, tired-sounding)
Fi: I'm Fi! Hi! My name's Fi! (Excitedly)

Leo stands up.

Leo: Where is this place? (confused)
Fi: I don’t know, but I’ve lived here my whole life! You know, I’ve never really thought about where I live… what’s your name?

Leo looks dissapointed, and shifts slightly.

Leo: Leo. (simple, solemn)

Fi flutters around for a while, then settles down.

Fi: Why are you so sad? This is really quite a nice forest.
Leo: (Heasitant) It's just... well.... that I can't remember... who I am, or why I'm here. (Fustrated, confused tone.)

Fi: Hmm.... (Pause, look like you're thinking) Oh! maybe the Teller will know what to do!

End Scene 1. Viewer is introduced to controls/instructions.

Scene 2

Leo and Fi arrive at large tree.
(Butterfly Extras flutter around)

Fi flies intoo hallow in tree.

Fi: Hello?

Teller enters. (slowly)

Teller: Hello Fi. Why have you brought a boy here?
Fi: He's Leo! I found him in the clearing this morning! He doesn't know where he is!
Teller: Hmmm... (stares at Leo, pause briefly)And you have no memory of what happened before you woke up?

Leo shakes his head, no.

Teller: The forest is very knowledgeable. All one needs to do is know where to ask the right questions.
That job will be up to you, however I will give you all the help I can.
First, you need to find a tree that grows berries. Solve the puzzle of the tree to receive a berry, and bring it back to me.
Fi will help you, as butterflies can sense things humans cannot. Go!

End scene 2.

Your writing is really good! But when you have voice actors and animation there's no need for detailed writing. Try and keep that in mind!  wink

@pokemongardevoir:

smile  Thanks so much! I uploaded your rewrite to the developer website.

Being who I am, I forgot to write up the storyline I had come up with, so I'll let you know as soon as I post it. Then both of us can be writing different parts of it, then work on meshing them together later.

Great! I checked it out and tweaked it a bit. (see the projects comments for more info.

@All programmers:

Check out the project. There is a problem with it that I don't know how to fix: I want the butterfly to always be behind the main character, but if you move towards the butterfly slowly... well I guess this is going to be a scrolling project, so maybe we will worry about that later.

Ok!

Here is my very first storyline draft that I threw together.  tongue

Code:

Leo wakes up, lost, and meets Fi.

i takes him to Teller, sends him off to find berry

Leo gets close, Fi senses tree close by. They find berry, and bring it back.

Teller sends Leo off again with Fi to find rose and to bring back petals.

They find them and bring them back to teller.

Teller sends them off with a nut cracked in half (small bowl) one last time to get water from a river.

They find it and bring it back. Teller mixes the items together in the nut. Leo drinks it. Suddenly all the butterflies begin to fly in circles around Leo so the forest isn’t visible. The butterflies start to disappear and he is back at home, now remembering his family.

We can keep working on it, but with that you could probably continue the story if you wan't.  smile

I'm good at graphics, but not at character design. Tell me if you want pixel art or... HQ art? Not sure what to call it.

HQ as in high quality, right?  tongue

For now, my main focus for graphics is the gameplay. Animation graphics will have to come later. For gameplay, we need a sprite for Leo, but since it's from a birds eye view, it's pretty much going to be blonde hair and arms. We're also going to need textures for the tops of trees, and grass (with the occasional flowers and stuff.)
If you haven't already, take a look at the butterfly sprites we have (link is in the main post.) If you can, try to keep the style as similar as possible.

Thanks!

Re: Collab project: Butterfly Tree

Okay, but I think that the perspective will not be completely birds-eye view, as in you will see the tree canopy and some of the trunk.

EDIT: Nevermind.

That would be cool, but then we would have to worry about perspective, which would have to be different based on your location... I don't think that's something we should do. We will get to see faces and stuff during the animation in between gameplay.  smile

I decided not to do the perspective.

Leo: http://i51.tinypic.com/2zpobhc.gif

Tree:http://i51.tinypic.com/hrjvr5.gif

Leo is just a placeholder graphic.

Got it. I like the tree, so we can keep that as is.

I'll upload some ideas for how Leo could look soon.

A few things:

•A few variations of the tree you made. We dont want them all to look same!  smile
•A grass texture that doesn't clash with the tree color

Finally, the image below is a bad drawing I threw together to show what I had in mind for Leo. It's just an idea, but that should help you with his hair from a birds-eye view.
