What exactly is a Pico board? I know it is similar to the Scratch board, but is it just a newer model, or are there any differences? If there are differences, what do those include?

Lutz, are you part of the Scratch team? Cause I haven't seen you at all and your already a mod

I would have to say so! Either that, or a mature, responsible person who someone on the Scratch team met and decided to make a mod.

Good question! I guess I should have introduced myself. I am part of the Pico team. I will be handling the PicoBoard tech support as well as this Sensor Board forum.

Hello I hope you can help us with a problem:
Just got the Pico Board
Installed Mac OSX driver 1.2 and restarted
Plugged the pico board into the USB port
Scratch 1.4 does not respond to slider or button pressed
This is a powerbook G4, v10.3.9, 800 MHz PowerPC G4, 1 GB SDRAM
We tried Scratch version 1.2.1 and it also does not respond
Please advise
thanks

Send me an email, I have a driver that should resolve the Snow Leopard issue. We will be testing Snow Leopard very soon.
Not sure why 10.3.9 would act up though. I'll look into that .
My email is 'danny at playfulinvention dot com'.

Hey there. Am having the same problem. Mac Book Pro / Snow Leopard / installed driver / no go with brand new Pico Board. Will email you for update, but may I suggest that you post that update on the Pico Board site for others who may not find this here? Thanks!

A picoboard is a scratch board, but the slider has a plastic thing. (cheap things these days!)

I think a picoboard is something similar to a game controller.

sort of, except that it is used for sensing stuff like light and other things you wouldn't see on your average gaming controller.
EDIT: I'm sure that Nintendo might one day make a controller that does that and other weird stuff just for the sake of bringing it apart from other game systems.

Dear Bluestribute,
I am a middle school technology teacher using Picoboards with my 7th grade students. We would like to use the slider function in a game of Pong where the handle is moved by moving the slider. We are having problems because the slider does not seem to go to the negative numbers on the screen, therefore only covering half the playing board. Not ideal as you can imagine. Can you please help? Any assistance would be most appreciated.
Sincerely,

You need to scale the numbers, so the slide value corresponds to a position on the screen. For example, if the position of x in the screen go from -100 to 100, you need to set the x coordinate of the sprite -100 + slidervalue x 2
<set x to( ((-100 <+>(( slidervalue <*>2 )) ))
Look at this example I created for you.. http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/callaurrea/1813625
Good luck!
