Yeah. I have Malwarebytes Anti-Malware free version, had no virus problems in months.

I thought the free version didn't offer real-time protection, only scans and removal of malware?

Yeah. It doesn't, but if I suspect ANYTHING, I scan.

Re: Windows VS Mac

Well, you could spend less time and save memory without having the antivirus stuff. When you get a virus, you have to wait for it to be removed, etc.

But the point of an antivirus is to prevent you from getting a virus in the first place. And Avast uses up about 2mb of memory for me, which is downright insignificant.

Let me start.
I won't include Linux in my argument for I have not fully experienced it for my computer is low on memory and I don't want to use the rest of it. (although I am trying to free some memory to be able to install Linux sometime soon.)

If/when you try Linux it is my recommendation to either not try Ubuntu first, or try another distribution as well. Ubuntu is kind of the flagship of Linux, but that does not mean that it is the best. Windows XP is the most used version of Windows, but it is not considered the best version by everyone. Perhaps you (and everyone else who want to try Linux out) should first attempt to use Mepis, PcLinuxOS or Pardus and then when you are a little bit more comfortable with Linux Salix.

Re: Windows VS Mac

Linux, Linux, Linux, Linux...!

But if it's between Windows and Mac OS, I'd have to go with the Mac.

Yawn, another boring text signature. I should really make something better.

Re: Windows VS Mac

Hmm  hmm  any good free antiviruses that offer decent-good real time scanning? I mean I scan about once a month with Malwarebytes, but still...

Re: Windows VS Mac

I used to use Avast, it worked well for me. I never actually downloaded any viruses though, so I couldn't really tell you if it works well for others.

Re: Windows VS Mac

I use Avast and it works well for me. It's lightweight, gets out of your way and gets the job done. Only thing is that is has these annoying audio messages enabled by default, but they're easy to disable.

I liked the audio messages because I set the voice to pirate.

I use AVG Free, and it works fine for me. If you don't want AVG for whatever reason, get Avast.

Ok, that link was to a joke video, but now I'll give my honest opinion.

Macs are great workhorses for media. I can do stuff related to movies, pictures, and other stuff on it just fine. Another perk is that, because it isn't as popular as mainstream computers, it doesn't have much viruses. Plus, if you can afford a Mac, you can look cool at Starbucks.  cool

PCs are great for computer gaming. If you want a great game, get it on PC. A Mac's selection of games is slightly disappointing, but that may change in the future. PCs are also versatile in the fact that you can fully customize their hardware and operating system.

Final score: 50/50, they're pretty equal.

You forgot the price factor...$_$

And did I ever mention that I've owned quite a couple of both?

And did I mention that we have an iMac and a Macbook pro both running snow leopard at home as well as a windows computer running vista?

Re: Windows VS Mac

Macs are great (as agscratcher said) for media. You can do stuff easily with pictures and videos. Also, mac have very little viruses. I also like macs because it has really good graphics. The downside is that they are very expensive.

PC's are really good for gaming and games work well on them. The graphics are a little worse though. Also, unlike macs, you can customize your computer to your liking.

Overall, I personally like Macs better, but PC's are good too.

Wait, what do you mean by good graphics? The highest graphics option for even the Mac Pro's is only the Radeon HD 5870, which, don't get me wrong, is a good card, but it's certainly not great. ...Or did you mean the visual appearance of the GUI?
