My dad thinks rap is evil.
I don't.

The reason why rap receives such a bad reception on this site is because most users are kids, 10 - 12 years old. Personally, I don't listen to rap anymore but a few years ago I did (only to Eminem).
When you become a teenager, you'll see why Eminem's music is so powerful and has such a big impact. His music is about "life", and due to the feelings he invokes in his music, it is very easy to get caught in the trap of listening to it over and over again, and just feeling angry and sorry for yourself. Just listen to "Not Afraid" for example.

Rap is *. Plain and simple. I don't want you to say "that is mainstream rap", because I don't you to explode, and it isn't just mainstream rap. I have probably heard every bit of rap on this Earth, and it all makes my ears want to commit suicide.
edit: *sigh* The word that is rap with a c at the beginning is censored. Oh well.

It's just some peoples opinions, so you shouldn't freak about it. The reason people say rap isnt real music isn't because whats in the songs, but the auto-tune and not as many real instruments in other genres, like guitars. Also, many rappers dont change the pitch of their voice, and its more like shouting. Im not saying its good to be biased like the chain letter thing, but, yeah.
I agree with you.
And nice sig

Flobots is the only rap I've heard and liked.
Even the rap songs that have supposed "moral values" such as love.
When you go through said loss, you really DON't CARE about what some rapper has been through.

I like the Flobots AND their use of violins...

Hey, give it a chance. It might not be the musical equivalent to your grammar that you might think it is.
@bananaman114: Well, it's a form of expression. Even if you don't care about it, it's still self-expression and that should be valued.

True, but could I care less about all this person's life problems?
No.
I have the same opinion about blogs.

Yay for opinions!
@littletonkslover: Actually those were some of my least favorite old Eminem songs. =P My favorites are Brain Damage, Guilty Conscience, My Name Is, Stan, When The Music Stops, White America, and Sing For The Moment (awesome Aerosmith sample). But each to their own.
@fire219: Well, if you dislike that, it's all a matter of opinion. And I respect that. As long as you actually have given it a chance.

Rap is music. Just not the greatest. It's mostly people explaining their opinions. Or just rhyming :p

I think rap is real music. Nutshell.
Pop is not. Nutshell.
Pop autotunes, takes no talent, has awful subject matter. It just takes so little effort to make it.
PandaGuy's response on the first page is essentially everything I could possibly say on the matter.

Still hate rap. There's nothing you can do about it.
And I could argue that it's not "music" because it has no melody. Sure not all rappers swear, but they just talk, mostly. In rhyme.
There is no specific definition for music. Thats because music is an art. So, to some people rap is music. For others, it is not. i personally hate rap, but it is others opinions.

How to make a rap song:
1. Take a recording of yourself talking blankly into the microphone. Make it almost rhyme and make it contain explicit language containing the most foul and terrible words known to man that almost make sense and almost appeals to people. Then speed up said recording to an average of three words per second (remember to have no chorus whatsoever and to repeat the same line countless times)
2. Add a simplistic "track" of two drum beats repeating through the whole song. Remember to put little or no effort into this, as it improves the final product.
...that's it.
I'm not trying to criticize the people who make those songs, wait. That's EXACTLY what I intend to do! Just kidding (sort of), but I'm trying to make a point here: these things have virtually no effort into them, and yet they somehow become super popular. It's almost like, my projects! *winks and gives thumbs up while ding plays in background* Really, if you listen to rap and are reading this, look up the Super Mario Galaxy soundtrack on Youtube, every, single, freaking one of those songs is a masterpiece. They're flawlessly beautiful. And even if you STILL think those piles of junk are music, then get a ![]()
