put scratch on linux, unix +dos
the only reason i have a window computer is linux is'ent popular

Another tip: if you're using 64 architecture, you'll need to intall 64 version of squeak.

by
squeak
There are some bugs with the 64.
Finally, Scratch will have some trouble dealing with compiz, so you should disable it.

Scratch 1.1 seems to work fine with that?

I've got the drum and note blocks working with the linux 3.9-8 squeak vm and timidity.
I have to polish the build process then I'll publish a patch and instructions.
It's a little bit hackish but it seems to work.
Coupled with the ScratchPlugin from the xo project this should give us an almost full features scratch under linux.

Hmm... Blender has video game blender with as much plugability and playability as scratch, why not bypass scratch and try out blender, it uses the same sensing concept with playback and collision detection and physics.. Better yet why doesnb't the MIT geeks get off their high horse, open source the project and take a part of the blender code branch and inbuild the Scratch language.. It's already there and it already supports a lot of platforms.
It also has its own Netscape plugin for embedding blender games into browsers.. See the game "Yo Frankie!".

And consider people are always talking about "if only people would expose their children to concepts like this is a green round ball".. There is plenty of 3D in blender for that sort of discussion..
It's just that I think people think, if it is 3D its gotta be impossible.. And some people who can't figure out blender, go see my tutorials on youtube for just about anything including blender here:

I've used it on ubuntu 8.10 pretty successfully. It doesn't do full screen mode, and there are a few other cosmetic bugs, but overall it seems to work reasonably well.

Hello all -
I've been helping some of the team get Scratch working well on Linux so I know a bit about it. It's true that one can't close Scratch with the current version, as it states in the known issues section of the Scratch on Linux download page here:

The closing problem will be fixed when we release the next version of Scratch (1.4), now in Beta, and due to released before Scratch Day on May 16. For now, some Ubuntu users have had good luck closing Scratch with ctrl Q.
The Linux version won't come out right when 1.4 is released for Windows and Mac, but hopefully soon after if all goes well. Our developer has done a lot of work on this, but unfortunately we have to wait for the release of 1.4 to continue testing and make an official release.
