I don't think anyone can help without more information. Can you post the scripts, please? You might have two scripts trying to change the background at once.
I'm taking a break from Scratch until 2.0 comes out. Any messages sent between then and now probably won't be read - sorry.

When you broad cast to the final one, say in the others,
{when start clicked}
[ show ]
{when I receive [ final level^ ] }
[ hide ]
