Id like to know how many uncopied blocks there are in Slash, compared to how many copied blocks there are.

I'd also like to know what percentage of those stolen blocks are actually mine.

The color scheme! It burrrrnns!  yikes
Having bright (clashing) boxes for a script editor isn't exactly the most popular idea. Just keep the original color scheme (without options for changing it), and Slash's popularity might go up.

You have some great blocks there, however many of them aren't needed and just take up space. You should make a list of custom blocks where users can select which ones to add into the block selector (or whatever it's called). Also, change the < () is within () of () > block to < () is between () and () >, and change [ [] run] to [tell [] to].

Most of the reporter blocks you added have the check box next to them for displaying them in the stage. The check boxes not needed, and just take up space, so I suggest you remove them.

I understand why you added the BYOB blocks and block editor, but that's going too far with stealing blocks. You should find your own way of making a block editor/first class blocks. And if you do, could you also add a way of making squeak code blocks?

There are some images in Slash which really need fixing up. The 'Squeak' and 'More'  buttons have a white border around them, and look odd when selected. The color for 'Squeak' blocks really strains your eyes, you should make it darker. The color of the 'More' button doesn't match the 'More' blocks. The scroll bars and dialogs look really low resolution, it would be much better if you left it as the original. Also, remove the white border around the main sprite, and try to make it higher resolution.

And one more thing: The new block type doesn't look so great either. Change it to something like straight sides or jagged edges.

If you made these changes, than Slash would be one of my most recommended mods.  smile

By the way, what computer to you have? Judging by the graphics and cursors, you must have an old computer. If this is the case, then I suggest looking at your mod on a computer with better graphics.

1. I agree.
2. Umm... if that's true, I do agree.

3. I didn't take a close enough look for the blocks.

4. They are automatically made by Squeak and cannot be changed.

5. I agree.

6. I never looked at those buttons quick enough. And, I never diven into Squeak blocks, and pretty much. However, the 'More' blocks are coloured by Squeak code, and the 'More' button is coloured by ScratchSkin, with the Control images instead of their own.

7. Give me a screenshot, I want to see this "new" block type.

8. I agree.

Rating: 5/12-13. Pretty good with a few things I would have agreed on if I seen them.

I'd like some constructive criticism on what I can do to make Slash better and unhated.

Also, I'd like to clear up some misconceptions:

1. The color scheme is changeable. There is an option in the edit menu.

2. You can BYOB in Slash.

3. There are many uncopied blocks in Slash.

I think it is just too messy, plus I don't see a colour changer in the edit menu... I think the best thing about it is that the code block can be used inside of the BYOB creator.  smile  Over all, I think some are jealous.  wink   lol , the only thing is that it is BYOB copied, yet you give E-toys all the credit. Why?

I didn't. The online version is uses etoys, so I gave etoys credit there. BYOB is given credit. Also, you click Color scheme... on the edit menu to get the avalible color schemes. At some point I might make a GUIfied way of making the color scheme change, but for now, it's not.

I must have an earlier version, time to update!

If you are reading this, please read to the end, because if you don't you won't know what's at the end. Don't just skip to the end though otherwise you won't be able to read the middle, which is most important. Now you must be wondering why you just read all that, the reason is you may have not noticed something, read it again and see if you notice it this time  smile

One thing I noticed that you did is that you fixed the "Squeak's memory is getting low" error, which I don't know of any other mod that has that fixed.  smile  I don't hate it, I just think that you didn't add the finishing touches to make it more professional before you released it.

Really? I actually didn't mean to fix it. Either it was fixed in BYOB, or I unintentionally fixed it by changing the color scheme or something.

Also, how can I make it more professional?

This. Part of my "2-bit too high" rating for Slash: 5/10.

Re: Why Does Everyone Hate Slash?

To make it more professional:  Make is easier for the average user to use; maybe make a help manual, and kind of polish everything, like the graphics and menus...make it look more like professional software!

Work better on the themes, the grey border doesn't look good.

Woo, even better minecraft clone! | I feel that programming is better than animation, because you can interact with games but not animations.

Re: Why Does Everyone Hate Slash?

Slash is amazing. I love it. The BYOB feature IS stolen, but WHO CARES? There are heaps of new blocks, that weird ()O() shape thing that i can't figure out what it is and the COLORS! Everyone does NOT hate Slash. It is my second favorite (after Bingo).

Re: Why Does Everyone Hate Slash?

The main problem is the colour scheme.

When I tried Slash, I found it hard to use with the default colour scheme. As I do with all new mods, I look in everything to see what's new. Slash might be on the higher with stuff added compared to other mods, but the main feeling I got was that it was very un-neat.

Also the colour scheme changer apparently does not work. I tried, and Squeak erorred out.

Re: Why Does Everyone Hate Slash?

you can change "about Scratch" to "about (yourMod)" by going to scratch-ui panes scratchFrameMorph menu/buttonActions help menu and change "about scratch" to "about (your mod Name)" then go to About scratch and copy that and paste it under menu/buttonsActions then change it to what u want hope it helps  smile

I thinks it great to, but it looks a bit messy, without the original theme.

Yup. And also I would enjoy a mod for once that wasn't made by a Squeak noob.
