about a script ? in scratch wiki

what does abs means here ?
I know what this script is for but  how does it work ?
Can anyone enlighten me ?

Abs is "absolute value" -  it means the positive value of a number.
It is used in the Scrolling article, and shows that if the sprite is on the edge of the screen, it hides, and otherwise it is shown.
