Reliable Reason Why Users Projects Do Not Get Viewed

I think i came up with the most reliable reason why people do not get there projects viewed.

When a person makes there projects and puts them on the Scratch site people may only see it for the first 3 minutes until it gets off the front page.

A lot people will only view the projects that are posted on the front page or when someone types in a tag.

That leads into the reason why projects do not get viewed as much anymore.

People who are on the front page a lot are popular Scratch users. I use to be one but all my good projects never make it on the front page anymore because no one views them except my friends on Scratch

IF YOU WANT ME TO VIEW YOUR PROJECTS LEAVE A COMMENT AND I WILL ^_^ my tribute

Re: Reliable Reason Why Users Projects Do Not Get Viewed

So, so true. (I have a project that's pretty old and someone commented on it 3 days ago because of a tag or something)

...and I don't have a perfect project that I would show off to people. Thank you for putting up your offer.

Re: Reliable Reason Why Users Projects Do Not Get Viewed

People usually just don't pay attention to projects unless they look interesting to them.
The best way to get comments if you're not so popular is to comment on other peoples' projects, especially on unpopular or new scratchers' projects - since they are usually very fond of comments, they will most likely check out your projects and comment on them. Happy you, happy them  big_smile  lol

http://i52.tinypic.com/5es7t0.png I know what you're thinking! "Neptune! Get rid of those filthy advertisements and give us back the Zarathustra siggy, you horrible person!" Well, don't worry about it, the Zara siggy will be back soon, new and improved! ^^ Meanwhile, just do what the sig tells you to. >.>

Unfortunately, until people get good at making projects they are seldom viewed, which may persuade them to stop scratch early

Re: Reliable Reason Why Users Projects Do Not Get Viewed

I only look at projects that I may remix or use one of the components in some way or I occasionaly see one of the featured project/Front page ones. Tags and being on the front page alot is the best way to get your project viewed.

Re: Reliable Reason Why Users Projects Do Not Get Viewed

The scratch team should extend the recent projects bar so that it goes down the side of the window, allowing for like 10 projects to be shown. Or show the latest three, and then show some smaller icons below them.

Re: Reliable Reason Why Users Projects Do Not Get Viewed

When I first joined scratch, I was able to go to the new projects each day and view (at least in preview) all those that had been added since the previous day.

Now, however, there are so many new projects added that it is next to impossible to keep up with them.  A project will only be on the front page for a minute or two before being cycled off, and it is increasingly difficult to spot a good project in amongst the ones that are less unique.

But what can you do?  People feeling comfortable in posting their project, no matter how limited their skills, is what scratch is all about - as long as the creator learned something by creating it, it is a good project - it just may not look it to those people who figured out their (eg) jumping script many months ago.

The show and tell forum was supposed to mitigate this, but even that has been swamped.  Some of my most interesting projects have very few hits compared to some others of mine that were massively popular and/or featured...

Omg, I know just how you feel ^^ Anyone remember Heroine lisa? lol that put me on the front page over 20 times, and after the 5th-6th episode people kind of stopped watching and my popularity became only limited to people I knew. So yeah, if anyone wants, I'll look at their stuff  big_smile

They could probably add a second or third row of Recent Projects without too much effort...I wonder if that would help much?  Currently, the site is getting about a project a minute, during peak periods.  So, if you had 9 slots, you would be on the front page for 9 minutes instead of the 3 minutes you have currently.

I still think the Scratch Site might benefit from having some sort of subdivision by interest groupings...

Re: Reliable Reason Why Users Projects Do Not Get Viewed

Projects ARE knocked off the front page after a few minutes, giving people very little time to view them. I'm don't do it, but some people upload a new project for every new version of an old project instead of updating the old project. Just keep making good projects, be nice, and comment on other people's projects, especially the ones which have few comments and eventually you will get the popularity you deserve.

Re: Reliable Reason Why Users Projects Do Not Get Viewed

Maybe the front page can wait 3 minutes before the projects leave the front page and bring the next three projects in.

But it could overload with projects.

Yeah, it could be reach the point where after you upload it, it won't appear on the front page for days.

Re: Reliable Reason Why Users Projects Do Not Get Viewed

I agree the newest project needs to be extendet, and I feel that Top Remixed needs to be removed. I got projcts that i put hours into (500+ scripts) that barly gets any views, posting on show and tell aint helping anymore either as it is used so much!

Re: Reliable Reason Why Users Projects Do Not Get Viewed

I remember a idea call the least viewed list. I will look for the original thread but it pretty much showed the projects with the least amount of views ever. Your project had to be on for at least one day before it got qualified and would be on the front page until it wasn't the least viewed. It would get the view count up for some projects anyways.

Hey! I went to the least viewed project of all time, and now it isn't!!! People should comment on those last 5 pages!!
