screening policy

hi Admin,

i found some guys try to submit some evils into scratch, e.g., violent, sexy. They are totally inappropriate to this kid-oriented community.
I strongly suggest to run some screening policy against this crucial issue.

i understand it is not practical for only admins to take this task.

could we start an open discussion to find some efficient and practical way for this issue?

Re: screening policy

Yeah, I agree that there are some nasty things that pop up on the newest projects list. Flagging is good but by that time lots of kids have already seen the projects. Maybe there could be a group a trusted users who could automatically remove inappropriate projects? It is a really hard problem to solve. Another way to go is to give ip bans to people who submit nasty stuff because they will probably do it again.

There really isn't any perfect solution to this...

Re: screening policy

It is a nasty problem.  As mentioned by Dingdong and Archmage, Scratch does provide the "Flag as Inappropriate" feature which will remove the project if enough people use it.  I'm not sure just how many people have to flag a project before it is removed but it doesn't take very many.  However, as noted above, by that time it has already been seen by a lot of people so it is not a perfect solution.

I believe the Scratch Team is trying to develop better responses to this issue and your ideas are certainly appreciated, I'm sure.

I completely agree. People are putting projects that are gross, inappropriate, violent, that have bad words, that are remixes of projects that they hardly changed, and all that kind of stuff. We need to somehow stop that from happening. I am just an eleven-year-old, and I really shouldn't be seeing some of the projects I'm accidentally seeing, and I have now power to stop that from happening. Scratch is an educational program, and I don't want it to turn out to be a bad thing. I don't want to be influenced by other people's projects, nor do I want other people to be influenced by them. I think strongly that this problem should somehow be stopped. Maybe we should put something in Scratch1.4 that doesn't let you share certain projects depending on their names and the project notes. At least we can flag projects!
