How about the Eragon series?
It's about a boy who finds a dragon egg in the woods, takes it home, and watches it hatch. He becomes a Dragon Rider, and has to try to save the kingdom he's living in from the rule of an evil king. It's a lot of fantasy, magic-type stuff, which is really good to read. It's probably the series I most recommend out of anything I've read, and trust me, I've read a LOT.

Michael Morpurgo's books are great. I like private peaceful. Of course I like the Harry Potter series. Percy Jackson is good. But the best series ever has to be Alex Rider by Anthony Horowitz. Read them now. Animal Farm was pretty good. Skulduggery Pleasant was okay, not the best. Oh yeah, and the Narnia series.

If you like those books, you might enjoy other dystopia books like 1984, The Giver, Gathering Blue, The Messenger, and Anthem. (Although I personally wasn't a huge fan of Anthem.)
