Once you are on their My Stuff page, look in the upper left corner of the screen underneath their picture and there should be a link that says "add to friends". Click on that and then click on the OK button that pops up next and you are done!

Are they actually your friends, or did you just add them?
I’ve been on for four years longer than you, and I have 47 friends, and most of them aren’t active anymore.

Go to their user page (go to one of their projects and click on their username or go to http://scratch.mit.edu/users/[insert username here] ) and then click on the "Add to Friends" link on the left
