Re: Forum Signatures automatically cut off

We realize it'll take some time to adjust / resize old sigs to make room for more text. But if we're going to have a limit, it has to be set somewhere, and it should be clear and simple to understand.  Some time ago the community put some thought and discussion into it and went with 150px.

If your banner image is a bit too tall to accommodate text.... well.. Luckily, there's gimp!
http://www.gimp.org/downloads/

Open your sig image. Select image menu > scale image. You probably want, oh I dunno, 15 or 20 px for text, so you could try scaling to 130, and see how that fits. It might also be possible to integrate your text right into the image, so then you could keep the image sized to 150.

Re: Forum Signatures automatically cut off

I'd like to add something to what you said above, Lightnin:

Some are complaining that when the image is resized, either a part is cut off from the bottom or it does not occupy the entire width of the forums.

However, in some images it is possible to mirror the last section of the background (if it doesn't contain text) and add it on to the right. Then blur the middle and hey presto!

(On a sidenote, I actually thought the community had agreed to a 150px image + a line of text...)

EDIT:
This is post number 777777!!! wow!

Re: Forum Signatures automatically cut off

This is a great idea! I was getting fed up of huge signatures getting in the way.

Non-supporters: if you really want to have huge sigs interrupting your viewing of the forums, get Stylish as a browser addon and then create a style with this code:

Code:

@namespace url(http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml);

@-moz-document domain("scratch.mit.edu") {
DIV.postsignature{
overflow: visible !important;
max-height: none !important;
}
}

Re: Forum Signatures automatically cut off

I think you should be allowed as many lines of text that 150pxls are, and if you go over with images/text it is cut off.

With all due respect, I think most if not all people dislike having their sigs cut off.  hmm

Re: Forum Signatures automatically cut off

If you're on a mobile device (such as a Nintendo DSi) you can disable images with a setting. Much faster.

This doesn't really effect me, since I can't make a signature anyway.

Re: Forum Signatures automatically cut off

This is one of the reasons I don't have an image in my signature. It would be over the limit, since I have a liking fer giant images. It's fuuuuun.

Guys, instead of putting images in your sig, put a 'In Soviet Russia" joke in there.

I think the the sig should have a limit of 75 pixs but you should the scroll bar if the sig is bigger

We need a bit more leeway with this... yes, the max hight is supposed to be 150px, but maybe the cut off could be 200-250px? That way way too big sigs will be cut off, but reasonable ones wouldn't be cut off!

That would effectively make the max height 200-250px! Not that I'm necessarily opposed to that, but people who use the forums a lot on their mobile devices or just hate large signatures might disagree with me. Ideally there would be an option for users to disable the cutoff if they don't want it, but the bottom line in my opinion is that no one should have to put up with signatures larger than 150px if they don't want to.

Then again, you can always go to Forum Options > Display and deselect this:
http://j.mp/jJv1xe

Hey, why not just add a 'cut off/resize overlarge signatures' to that?

You could type in 4 lines of BBCode, and every image was resized to 150px if it was to big. But now the whole sig is just cut off. (You can even end up with a line of text cut in half vertically)

Ugh, I really want it fixed since my signature is chopped in half now. I really liked it resized!

It's already been implemented.
Though I don't think it's working anymore.  I've seen some pretty large sigs.

Nope. It's still working. I saw a signature being cut off today.

I have a suggestion: For every <INSERT NUMBER HERE> posts, a user's signature limit goes up by <INSERT NUMBER HERE> pixels, with a maximum of <INSERT NUMBER HERE> pixels.
