Google Translate

I am sick of people using "Google Translate" so they can use the foreign language forums. I know a but of French so occasionally I stop in at the Francais forums. I see so many people who either use "Google Translate" or need a lesson in grammar. I would love it if the Scratch team made an topic in announcements about this.

Re: Google Translate

Well, people want to communicate with them, so they use what they can.

Those forums are mainly questions, so why not answer them?

I'm glad to think that the community will always be kind and helpful, the language will always be a fun and easy way to be introduced into programming, the motto will always be: Imagine, Program, Share - Nomolos

Re: Google Translate

I use the French forums, because I am learning French at school. My grammar's not great, but I can answer basic questions in French. I don't really see a problem with that, do you?

Re: Google Translate

I would encourage everyone to use this forum regardless bad or good English grammar. English is my second language and I do not believe that people should be discriminated because someone does not like or do not tolerate grammatical mistakes. Google translator is quite good and translations are not that bad. I use many forums and google translator is invaluable resource.

Re: Google Translate

There is a lack of a number of scratchers in the foreign language forums and many questions go around unanswered. Anyone that goes into the trouble of using Google Translate or whatever to answer their questions is doing everyone a big favour!

Re: Google Translate

I don't know any of the languages. If I see something in a Latin-based language that looks interesting (like a Spanish Scratch Wiki), I might stop in, translate the posts, and translate my reply. I don't see anything wrong with that.

Re: Google Translate

Nowadays it usually always does—if it isn't in the right sense you can even change it a bit and it WILL be right. I'm still decent at french and I'll try what I can.

Protip: Canada.

Because Google translate isn't very accurate (it's riddled with a lot of grammatical errors when translating), it isn't a good idea to use it to post a reply for the sake of simply posting in another forum that isn't your language. The forums are largely for people who are capable of replying in said forum section. Some people find it rude or insulting when they see a machine-translation.

There might be some leniency in using a machine translation to give help (in which the original should also be given since machine translations are not reliable), but using a machine to translate a post just for the sake of posting is not okay.

What if I'm learning a language in school, and with my knowledge, I try to talk to them about scratch?

@PlutoisHades I'm in 中文课 too!

Re: Google Translate

Well, if you genuinely learn or know a language and are interested in helping people or communicating with a diverse range of Scratchers, then posting on the Other Languages forums should be good.
However, I don't recommend just posting for the sake of it to increase your post count.

Spam is also not appreciated by some people.

Programming is an art...
Goodbye, Scratch. I am leaving because of the exams coming up at our school, though I'll check the forums once or twice a week.
