Forum Signatures automatically cut off
Hey Scratchers!
I made a little tweak to the Scratch Forums (and TBG Forums). Signatures are now automatically cut off when they exceed the 150 pixels height limit.
Huge signatures really make a thread hard to read and distract you from the real content. It was taking the Community Moderators and ST a lot of time to manually reduce signature sizes.
If the change isn't yet visible for you, try pressing Shift while clicking refresh or clear your browser cache.

You could type in 4 lines of BBCode, and every image was resized to 150px if it was too big. But now the whole sig is just cut off. (You can even end up with a line of text cut in half vertically)

I think we should just take out images ( I set it so images now just look like <image> ). I think all people need to do is just have one line and one link ( to a project or something ). It makes the signatures look more cleaner in my opinion.

Ok- this is a bit overboard in my opinion. Yes, there are those with ridiculously HUGE sigs (once i saw one with 4 rows of pictures of babies), but most aren't too bad! Take mine for example- I just got it and also added a ONE LINE quote that is now cut off due to WAY too strict standards.
We need a bit more leeway with this... yes, the max hight is supposed to be 150px, but maybe the cut off could be 200-250px? That way way too big sigs will be cut off, but reasonable ones wouldn't be cut off!
And as for taking out images in sigs... no. -_-

I think we should keep images. It would be really boring without colours and annything to mark the end of a post DISTINCTLY. With images in signatures, you can easily identify a member. :L

That would effectively make the max height 200-250px! Not that I'm necessarily opposed to that, but people who use the forums a lot on their mobile devices or just hate large signatures might disagree with me. Ideally there would be an option for users to disable the cutoff if they don't want it, but the bottom line in my opinion is that no one should have to put up with signatures larger than 150px if they don't want to.
Then again, you can always go to Forum Options > Display and deselect this:

maybe not that much then... maybe a cushion of about the height of 1-2 lines of text?(20px? im not sure how much 2 lines are)

IMO this update is rather nice actually
Uh, just a thought - would the 400 characters/2 lines rules be removed? Having many lines or over 400 characters won't be much of a problem anymore.
I do think that a scrollbar wouldn't be too bad btw :3

Dosent really affect me at the moment but I do think sigs are important because they allow us to easily identify people. I'm not for this idea, but I'm not against it either because massive sigs annoy me ;P

I think scrollbars would make everything worse without a decent amount of JS and CSS added to make them look nice etc...
I like the rule. It really annoys me having to look at 300px sigs which take up more space than the post itself.
However, I agree with Jonathanbp that now the character limit is useless. It would only do good to take it off, since some images require longer URLs which pass the character limit but aren't effectively adding space.
