>> Conversations with Computers

Note: This is a very complex system that will be very hard to create.

With the breakthrough of computer-mind connections, us kids need to show our skills and prove to the big guys what we can do!

If any of you have an iPhone or have the app Xwave, which claims to read your mind, you may know what I am talking about.

The goal: A working computer database with 'memories' that can be reviewed later.

How we will do it: Through hard work, binary code, sensors and testing!

It will have 'memories' built into the computer "mind" which we will start working on first.

The first thing we need is a database capable of holding the 'memories'- thats where we need to start.

NOTE:
This may be very confusing, but it is long term, and will pay off later.

Re: >> Conversations with Computers

Sorry, but the human mind is so complex that it'd be pretty impossible to replicate it to the extent that you think you're actually talking to a human.

Re: >> Conversations with Computers

Well, it would have to be some sort of system where it could identify words, and match it to things in the chat history. Would it also include pictures and voice? Or just [start?] with text?

Re: >> Conversations with Computers

I think I might program it in Ruby, and it will be text-only until we can get software that can replicate speech.

How will it know if things are questions? Or even if things are exclamatory! Or if they are just a statement. It needs to know if it is imperative, or if it is an interjection.

Wow! We have to get working!

We will have to implement a dictionary, as well as recognise sentences and punctuation. I don't know Ruby, but I could learn some. Can you have a database with it?

Re: >> Conversations with Computers

If it is typing chat to it you would put a question mark/exclamation point. If youre talking through a mic, then in a question your voice goes down a bit, but in an exclamatory it goes up or louder?

For voice, if we shifted languages, we could use this.

Re: >> Conversations with Computers

How about speech-to-text? We can use the MIT speech program and it'd be easy to do a different language.

Who wants to start first?

BTW I don't really know Ruby. All I know is how to make it say Om nom nom! Cheese! 5 times.

What language are we using? The one I posted?

Re: >> Conversations with Computers

I thought you meant Javascript.

So let's assign parts. I want Javascript/other coding, what do you want to do on the project?

I can do a bit of coding. I can build/host a web site, make graphics, and other miscellany.

Actually, first I could set up a forum, because it would get really cluttered on here.

Re: >> Conversations with Computers

Can I help with the site? I'm not too good with graphics.
Who'll host the site?
And I just realized something- we can write the script INTO the webpage!
But then it'd be a total memory hog.

What to start on first? Research?

There is a free web host I have in mind, and I'll use a .tk domain with DNS. Would that be fine?

And yeah, research. And possibly finding some people that know Java/JS well.

Dude.
I'm 10.

And I've coded whole websites before, and I think trying is better than lying, am I correct?

@ the forums
Cool! And we do need research, and we need to find out where to store the database.

We could do that on the website. I'll set up the website now.

Re: >> Conversations with Computers

We do need a password protected part-
That's where we have the database and store most of the files.

And please ignore Soup, as I said, trying is better than lying, and one IQ test said I was off the charts.

EDIT:

Let's use a domain name like- err-

How about www.lifechat.tk?
Or www.Techchat.tk?
