You can click the "support" button at the top (next to the forums button) for some early guides, or you can visit the Scratch Wiki.

If you know the basic elements of programming (e.g. if statements, repeat-until loops, etc.), then you can learn how I did, by guessing! I just played around with all the blocks, read the help for each one, and I gradually built up an understanding. It may not be the fastest way, but it does work.
