It is interesting to see who has clicked "I love it!", added a project to favourites or tagged a project.
Can the same be created for "downloaded".
It would be interesting to see who has downloaded the project.

I take andresmh's/Andres's point.
One of the main purposes of the Scratch community is to share and learn from others.
In any community there will be people who do not want to be 'watched' for many reasons, including, but not restricted to, unfair practices. For example, some people just like privacy.
The main reason I wanted to see who has downloaded my projects, is to see how this has impacted their own projects. Maybe by glimpsing at my project has helped someone to develop a new way to achieve something in Scratch. For example, lots of people have downloaded my Pattern Maker Tutorial, even though all the blocks are displayed in the project window. Perhaps users think the project contains other/different blocks, or maybe there is some other reason.
Ok, so after this rambling of mine, I think what I really want to know is, why do people download projects. Is it just to see how the project is made with the possibility of reusing the blocks in another project. Or maybe there are other reasons...

Some projects get downloaded just because they run poorly in the Java implementation.

andresmh: Couldn't you implement a checkbox-choice that the downloader is free to fill in. e.G:
"Why do you want to download?"
O I want't to learn of this project
O I want't to do a mod of this project
O I need a sprite of this project
....
O I have an other reason: Free-Text __________________________
O I want my Scratch Identity shown to the author of this program
O I want to stay anonymos
I think this could be a godd oportunity to establish comunication between the original author and the downloader.

What about:
O I want to copy this project and make it my own and take all the credit?
sigh.

That's an interesting idea cocanut. I think it's doable, my only reservation is that giving too many options might be overwhelming but I imagine we could pick one of the options as a default and people can skip the question if they want. I will consider this idea. It is one of the best written suggestions for the website that I've seen

cocanut: Here you see how easy it is to get the credits for a copy (of an idea of sombody else) even without planing it :-)
andresmh: I would appreciate if that idea helps you to make the scratch platform a litle bit better.
