Maybe there could be a beta test setting, where a randomly selected group of scratchers (everyone could join the beta testing queue) could see the program (they would sign up and select the tags that they're most interested in). This way, a few beta testers could see the project without showing it to the entire community.

Also, is there a scratch 2.0 screenshot that I can see and we can use for mockups?

Ooh that's a really cool idea! I like it!

No, since it would be way too easy to "steal" someone else's hard-worked project. Plus, we need to keep respect of others privacy. Maybe we can limit it so it's optional.

What if you wanted help with some of your code that wasn't working right (even though you are an amazing programer anyways  tongue )? It would help with collabs as well.

Maybe there should be a button for this like in Clutter....

Maybe you could have the choice whether to let people see what projects you're working on...

Perhaps a "private" button you can click whether or not you want the public to see it. You could also put settings on it, like what lemonpretzel said, to invite only certain people to see it before its shared.

I think that draft viewing should work like galleries do, you can let friends in, everyone in, or keep everyone out.

Also good, there should be live coding shows like those at http://wonderfl.net/

You can see people build code and talk to them while they are doing it.

I think this is an awesome idea  big_smile

You know what I just realized? The private sharing, private keeping, and public sharing are all done now: email, not uploading, and uploading.

I think that users should have the option to share drafts on every project.

I don't think people should be able to see your unfinished work

Re: Scratch 2.0 Update: Moving to the Cloud

I got it! When you create a new project, a box pops up with settings.

The settings are mainly the suggestions people are suggesting (yet I don't know if they'll happen, but just things like screen resolution...)

The screen will have things like:

Name of Project:
Creator(s):
Tags:
Description:

[√] Let other's view your draft? (this would be a checkbox)

Re: Scratch 2.0 Update: Moving to the Cloud

This sounds great!  As for seeing unfinished work, I think everyone wants to see others but keep theirs secret. There should be an option whether an user wants to let others see unfinished versions of their projects. Also maybe an option to let the user select WHICH projects to make public and which to not.

Being able to view drafts means being able to download them and edit them and share them?  If that's the case, then people would be able to post a copy of another's projects before the original person posts the real version, causing people to think that the project is the the other person's not the original person's.  I can foresee hundreds of project claims on the forums.

I think that there should be an option for the draft to appear, instead of just making it show no matter what.

Lightnin wrote:

Well. I don't know. It would be really useful to see them, but there's lots of reasons why it's not. Firstly, lots of people work on lots of projects at the same time. There might be a memory issue, and the site could get buggy. You can't hold that many projects at once!

Second, lots of people want to keep their projects private, while they're working on them. It seems more professional to make versions such as AwesomeOS v1.0 beta. That's one of mine.

Thirdly, we might get more hate/spam/mean comments than usual. People would annoy people about what they're doing wrong, or that they don't like it, or something like that.

There's good points too. If you needed advice for your projects, then people can look at the scripts, and tell them how to do whatever they want to do.

It's a bit hard to choose. Some people like privacy and some people want to show their upcoming projects to the world.

A useful solution to this problem would be to let them choose whether to keep their projects private, or to let the world see your progress. A suggestion for the button would be an eye. If the eye is closed, then people can't see what you're working on.

I hope this helped the on-going debate on this question.

Re: Scratch 2.0 Update: Moving to the Cloud

I agree with others that there should be an option to show your draft for a project. I also think that there still should be a way to edit it offline in case you don't have internet connection but want to work on it anyway.

Re: Scratch 2.0 Update: Moving to the Cloud

I think that you can either choose if you want it to be seen or not, or you can send a "Peek Request" for a project, and the owner of the project can approve it or not. That way, collaborators could work together better.

Re: Scratch 2.0 Update: Moving to the Cloud

I think that other Scratchers should only be able to see an unfinished project if the owner presses a 'Share Draft' button so that it goes to a page on Scratch just for these unfinished drafts.  If the owner decides whether to share the draft, then the choice is right fore everybody!

Post your thoughts on the question at the end:

"What do you think? Should Scratchers be able to see each other’s draft projects?"

I think scratchers, like me should given the option to choose which projects a public and which are private, that way its up to each individual user weather they wish to share whats been done and whats hasn't.

Yeah, that would be good.

Re: Scratch 2.0 Update: Moving to the Cloud

I think you should be able to choose if the project could be viewed in progress or not. And you can choose who can view it, you can pick certain scratchers, everyone, just you, or your friends.

yeah, lemonpretzels right, if all the drafts of your project went on to the web, you'd get mad. but if you're doing a collab and you needed to see if everyone else thought it was a good draft of your idea it would be okay, so their should be a button to choose if it was a collab work, or just an ordanary project! =P  cool

Re: Scratch 2.0 Update: Moving to the Cloud

I think we should take votes wether or not we should do what these questions say. oh! maybe each user could make there own settings, like for question 2, (If a Scratcher starts a new project and gets halfway through before stopping to do something else, should others be able to see their work in progress? Or should it be hidden until the Scratcher decides they are ready to share it with everyone else?) that would be a question! you know a [ ] box.
