Re: ITopic: Suggest more ITopics (stickies) for Advanced Topics

that's very neat! I like it, though for your broadcast explaination, it may seem to people that they're looking for a < %e recieved? > block and just can't see it, maybe point out that it needs to be added by the user, and that ordinary hat blocks will work too?

Done...  big_smile  I mentioned that people should use [when I receive [ ]) and not <[ ] received?> unless they've put it in the source code or are using Panther.  smile

I think it needs to be ITopic'd and stickied.

I wouldn't say need, especially since you don't even capitalize the first letter of every sentence. ^^

I do that, I copied it completely from the Scratch source code which doesn't do it.

I know one that should be ITopiced: Waterbear.

If you are reading this, please read to the end, because if you don't you won't know what's at the end. Don't just skip to the end though otherwise you won't be able to read the middle, which is most important. Now you must be wondering why you just read all that, the reason is you may have not noticed something, read it again and see if you notice it this time  smile

Scratch Online/Offline API, by Sparks because it's a small first step to lots of possibilities and other users could use some of the code to make their own.

Re: ITopic: Suggest more ITopics (stickies) for Advanced Topics

A few people have expressed an interest in my forum API. A large number of Scratch users around the fora are using the API (especially then online/offline part) in their signatures and I believe that it could potentially be a strong resource for making the forums even more interesting, dynamic and fun!

The API can (at time of post) show different images depending on your online status, automatically display links, thumbnails, names and number of loves of your n'th project, display a thumnail or link to your n'th friend, a random image (replacing rotasig, which seems to have broken) and random links.

No more dangerous than images and URLs can be and so causing little or no increase in forum moderating difficulty, the API can be applied to forum posts and signatures (and other websites) either using img and url bbcode tags and either the full documentation pages on the above linked thread or the excellent generator built by comp500 that does it all for you!

Please consider the API, it's growing in use and capiability every day and promises to become a useful, well used resource for the entire Scratch forum community.

I'm not going to pretend to be an expert on this kind of stuff, so I've asked the rest of the moderators what they think of this.  smile

Re: ITopic: Suggest more ITopics (stickies) for Advanced Topics

Thanks coolstuff, I've tried to make sure that it takes full advantage of the fora without taking advantage of the users or moderators, if you know what I mean! This is the first part to several sets of projects I'm planning to create to improve the ease and fun of forum use! I look forward to hearing what the others think  smile

Re: ITopic: Suggest more ITopics (stickies) for Advanced Topics

Would anyone be interested in an iTopic in FAQ/AT about the ScratchR API that lets you query the Scratch website? I know Scratchers are often trying to find out where it is and how to use it...I could write up a quick tutorial if there's some interest.

I think we're set on adding it at some point, the only problem being that there's already a TON of ITopics there - wouldn't you agree?

Well, how about splitting the ITopic index in half: half for mods and half for other stuff.

Re: ITopic: Suggest more ITopics (stickies) for Advanced Topics

I realise my documentation of the API is a little hard to grasp at times as it's quite technical so I am perfectly happy to work on a simplified step-by-step tutorial that covers a few simple parts of the API such as online/offline and newest project image and links? If fullmoon wants to write it that's fine too!

Re: ITopic: Suggest more ITopics (stickies) for Advanced Topics

I support sparks's API. It's a very useful resource for those people who aren't too acquainted in PHP or other server-side scripts. I, for example, coded my own post counter, but many Scratchers might not know how to do that. Sparks's API allows them to use these features with zero coding knowledge. (And, by the way, an easy guide for it would be more useful than the current technical info).

EDIT
(Sorry: post N*2011!)

What about Tutorials-R-Us? It would be great if we could get some more writers. More viewers means more writers, and more writers means more content.
