Use an uppercase P, like this: :P 

Make sure that "Never show smilies as icons for this post" is not checked. And use an uppercase P.

I know the problem.
Scratch will automatically turn all letters (except those at the start of a word) to lowercase.

I can use    here, but try to do it alone and it won't work.

That only happens when every letter is capitalized. YOU CAN WRITE AN ENTIRE POST LIKE THIS, AS LONG AS YOU HAVE AT LEAST ONE LOWERCASE LETTER IN IT.

Maybe if you made your posts more than just ':P' it wouldn't happen

You can't just type a smiley by itself. :S

You can't do :D by itself either.

Because there are no lowercase letters and the : is before D, :D would become
:d Now it looks sad LOL.
