well if u want simple models and dont want to spend HUGE time learning the software sketchup is the first choice ,

If u want COMPLEX Models with very High definition of graphics , effects like raytracing and Per Pixel Lightning to give real looking models Blender is the first choice .. but the trouble is you will have to spend hours learning the program before you can render the very first cube scene !! (ah its confusing)!

Get Wings3D. It's awesome and easy to use. I took one look at Blender after I installed it, and it confused me. Model manipulation is much easier with Wings3D.

I have seen some pretty awesome organic creatures from Minecraft made on Blender, but if you want a user-friendly, beginner enviorment, get Sketchup.

seeing as Blender is a very advanced software, it is very good for more complex things, plus it's free, so you have nothing to lose.
