One thing I don't get is that, how does Java connect to the project and do its thing?

Maybe that the scripts go a bit dodgey when you playn them online like this one for instance http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/Potatogun234/1750150 (have to download, won't work on flash, don't know about java player though)
<switch to costume[ projects need to look better online somehow

hiya all,
im pretty new in scratch and i learn a little in my school
this is a project i made: http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/lior_noy/1778820
and my teacher put it up.
some bugs it has online:
1)the variables in the upper part should be in normal readout witch you can see what they are in but if you cant you dont know what they are.
2)every time 1 face gets to the end of the screen the game should generate an number between 1-5 if its 1-4 the first face goes on and if its 5 the other does
it dosent send faces after they get to the end of the screen!
btw its all hebrew there and im thinking of making it english too

I think I heard the set volume to and the hide/show variable doesn't work online.
. When I shared my project the show/hide blocks worked fine. When you play my project press the green flag twice.

You need a [color=grey.] tag and a [/color.] tag for that to work.
Just don't leave spaces ;D

It actually doesn't matter if you use proper English, or American English! It only matters if you fail @ spelling either of them Scratch on!

it seems that the show/hide blocks work fine in flash, but we don't use java.
if dens558 was here this is what he would write:

the sizing thing isnt a problem in the flash player so thats what i prefer. also, the division by zero thing online - thanks for mentioning that - because since lots of projects dont work well online(i always download and tell people to download mine), it could be used as a online/offline sensor that prevents the scratchers to access the project online because its glitchy, so the scratcher has to download.

For some people, the java player will work fine.
You should only put a notification before the actual game starts: game may be glitchy if not ran offline. I take no blame for glitches found online.

In some tests for a new game, pencil wars, an 'Owch!' bubble is supposed to appear when the enemy pencil's size equals a certain number and is touching the player. It works offline, but not online. This is necessary to the game as it makes the players HP go down. Any suggestions?

Sometimes projects don't work correctly when they are uploaded online. In this case, you should switch to the Flash Player which should work better. If the problem persists, another helpful option is to download the project. That way it's running on the actual Scratch interface it was made on.

Sometimes the games glitch and don't work properly online. Switch to the Flash Player to see if that works better. If the problem persists, it's helpful to download it and play it. It works the best when downloaded.

how do you update scratch
To update Scratch, download it again. When you download it again, the latest version will be download and so you can use that from then on.

I find that many times in the java player after the game loads you have to press green flag a second time for certain things that are supposed to happen when green flag pressed to actually happen.

do the same rules apply to the flash player?
