Well, that might not necessarily be the case. Particularly in cases where the forums are an addition to the main site, forums are usually more of a help tool - you showcase your stuff, you ask for help with a problem, you look for any new news from admins, etc. - and thus they may not necessarily be seen as a place to hang out and fun.
Everything is better when you add a little cheddar, because when you have cheese your life is at ease
