I'm walking along a cave, and all of the sudden, the floor disappears. BAM! Fall straight into the void. ~_~

Wow... -__- When I was playing Minecraft yesterday, I was standing on top of this hill. I heard a zombie. In broad daylight. I dug into the hill, and sure enough, there was a 2-block high dark space just big enough for a zombie to spawn.
lol, I had one of them int he wall of a house I built on an old save. There'd been coal there and I'd just covered it up.

So I just got Minecraft. Should I download or play Beta online? Is there any difference?

I smashed one block of gravel, and I found a massive cave!

Question: I just found a large deposit of clay. What can I make with it?

bricks. Smelt the clay, then put the bricks in a 2*2 form to get brickblocks.

You can make brick. Now, if you don't know how to smelt let me explain how to start. First, punch trees for about... 7 blocks of wood. Now hit "e" and there will be a crafting slot. Turn three pieces of wood into planks. Now put four planks in the crafting box like this:
PP
PP
Now take out the workbench and place it on the ground by right-clicking where you want to put it. Right-click on the workbench. Make some sticks like this
P
P
Now make a pickaxe like this:
PPP
S
S
P = planks
S = sticks
Now dig up some stone. You will get cobblestone. Get 12 pieces and go back to your crafting table. Open the crafting table and put cobble in it like this
CCC
C C
CCC
Now you have a furnace. Place the furnace by right-clicking where you want it. Put planks on the bottom and two pieces of wood on the top. You now have charcoal. Put this charcoal in the bottom and put the clay on top. You will get brick. Turn it into brick blocks like this:
BB
BB
Now that we have that done we will upgrade that pick and make you a shovel.
C = Cobblestone
S = stick
CCC
S
S
And for your shovel
C
S
S
Now there will be many different things in your world. If you see stone with specks of pink, or black on it, harvest it with your stone pick. The pink is iron ore, the black is coal, just the same as charcoal. Now we need to mine deeper. Let's make torches:
C
S
C = coal or charcoal
S = stick
Now that pink stuff would make a great pick! Let's take it and smelt it in that furnace. What do you get? Iron!
Here are the basics of iron, first a good iron pick, and a bucket.
I I I
S
S
I = iron ingot
S = stick
Now for a bucket:
I I
I
Right-click on lava or water or a cow with the bucket in your hand to get water, lava, or milk. These can be replaced elsewhere (except the milk).
You are now ready to harvest more. As you go deeper you will find light blue (diamond RARE) yellow (gold), dark blue, (lapis lazuli) and red (redstone). Just so you know, don't try to harvest any of these without an iron pick. These are all the basics. I hope this will help you start in Minecraft!
Have fun!

This idiots got it all wrong, he seems to want a game with ALL of the baggage mentioned here: http://seanmalstrom.wordpress.com/2010/ … -the-year/
Maybe it would make relative since if he hated on the graphics, but what he complains about is pretty stupid.
That first one made me die a little on the inside.
Make it fun? No goals? Life is the same way, and we still live it. Its just an alternate reality of awesomeness that allows people to do and experience things you can't normally experience.
Whasrong with that?

They probably have to play on peaceful 'cause they're scare dof the skellys and zombies, and creepers just ruined all their work, so they want to get back at Minecraft.

localhost is supposed to be one word. If it still doesn't work, try 127.0.0.1 and/or make sure server-ip is set correctly in server.properties.
Edit:

Cool, I tried it out, but my computer couldn't cope, I had lag, and I was the only one playing.
