I don't think anybodies projects work automatically. I know mine certainly don't. It takes lots of thought, trial and error, and looking at how other people's projects work to get my projects to do what I want. And sometimes, after all that, they don't work the same online!
However, that said, the more you work with Scratch, the better you understand the techniques that work. So once you've made one scrolling game (for instance) it's pretty easy to make others.
