Re: Mario type game?

Hi,

You might find this project helpful:
http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/jay/133

If you want, you can actually export the "jetpack girl" sprite and import it into your own project.

Good luck!

Re: Mario type game?

I am planning to make a Mario Bros. Style jumping game and publish by mid-June, so give me some feedback on ideas and stuff.

Re: Mario type game?

Tree_of_Knowledge: I would love to see the mario flying. Do you remember Mario Bros. 3? The one that gets a tail and flies? That was a cool version of Mario.

Re: Mario type game?

In case it helps anyone out, I put up an example showing how you might simulate a Mario style jump.  You'll have to forgive the timing in the program... it's actually moving slower up here than it was on my machine, so it's a lot harder to dodge the car on the site.  ; )

Re: Mario type game?

I just posted a relatively simple Mario-like game prototype.  It handles movement, jumping on and being hit by enemies.  When you're hit, the lives count goes down one and you become invincible (and appear ghosted) for a second or two, like in Mario.

Currently it just has one level, one enemy, no platforms or blocks, and no win condition.  Any stationary platforms and the like can be drawn onto the stage, though I don't think it will sanely handle vertical walls yet.

Re: Mario type game?

Very cool.  My jumper had some trouble... particularly I never tweaked the speed to work online well, and I wasn't handling the keypresses right yet.  Yours is much better!

Favorited.  ^_^

Re: Mario type game?

I've been working on a scratch project at home that my friend and i came up with the idea, but i'm making my own version at home. It's called Afro Dog where the game is kinda suppose to look Mario(TM) type.
The dog has to advoid enemys and hop onto blocks to get to cheese.
Another way that this is Mario like is that you go up pipes to get to other levels.
The project may take another month or so to complete,so i'll give you some commands for the hopping onto blocks and falling off of blocks:
Forever change Y by -1, if touching color of ground change Y by positive 2.
If color of feet is over color of blocks Change Y by positive 5.
This should get you going.

PIE IS GOOD!

Re: Mario type game?

Yes but you could also use gravity and just set y velocity to .1, or somthing along those lines, when you touch a certain color.  Also when you do that it is good to have the bottom of the sprite to be a slightly different color so that you don't touch the platform with your ear and suddenly fly up.

Thanks alot!

Re: Mario type game?

My newest game is sort of a mario type platformer. To make the engine I used spites that follow the main player to detect walls at diffrent levels to make him rise or stop.

To see the demo for my latest game go to http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/archmage/11944
