Re: Mind-blowing news

I can't understand all that geek talk but I assume it's something like changing the atoms of one area in space to the atoms in the other (and vice versa). But that's just a terrible guess.

Re: Mind-blowing news

Not just light, but a macroscopic amount.  As in an amount that can be seen by the naked eye.  It's pretty impressive if you think about all the data that would require.  Think of trying to write a Scratch program that stored the color and amount of light from one place, sent that data, and the light at near the speed of light and then reassembled it to it's original state.  I think the cool thing is they figured out how to get something to equal a 1 and a 0 at the same time for a computer.

Says someone who hasn't even posted or mentioned anything in this topic. Why the bump if you're not discussing?

You didn't teleport it, you cloned it! The "l" is still in your first sentence!  yikes

Who else thought they actually teleported a cat until they read the whole thing?

I thought they'd teleported like atoms before I started reading, lol. But I'm pretty sure they've already done that.

Re: Mind-blowing news

So they teleported LIGHT?  sad
I was expecting something impressive, like a candy bar, an egg or maybe a hamster - light is boring!
When the teleport something or SOMEONE, I'll be impressed.

Pfft, teleport light yourself and then talk.

Yeah, but it's a little underwhelming, to be honest.
When we are talking slid objects, I'll have more interest in this. Why would anyone need to teleport light?

Because it is a small nudge toward teleporting solid objects.

Re: Mind-blowing news

It is true, the fact that it was light instead of an element or something, but seriously, if you've ever studied chemistry, you'd know it's near impossible to take protons away from each other.  Electrons and neutrons aren't nearly so hard.  They should try hydrogen ions next.  All that is is single protons.

Re: Mind-blowing news

I know they've been able to teleport small amounts of photons for a long time, but enough to be seen by the naked eye is quite impressive.

Granted, we're still many decades away from teleporting a single cell, let alone a complex organism. But still, light is better than nothing at all.

I'm taking a break from Scratch until 2.0 comes out. Any messages sent between then and now probably won't be read - sorry.

Re: Mind-blowing news

Lol. It's telerportation because high amounts of information moved from one computer to a computer next to it at the speed of light (fiber optic). Of course that's possible if they wasted milllions on fiber optics and had hunders of communication lines with another computer. That's playing on the definition of telerporting. It's not really telerporting.
