I can divide by 0.

No, seriously I can.
The answer will always be 0: as there's 0 people, so 0 mouths can't eat 3 apples However on some cases it is 3, because in some cases 0 people can have 1 of 3 apples each.

However, 0 divided by 3 people will be 0 too.

Re: I can divide by 0.

Let's use one with zero for now, but i explained this really well somewhere else.

1/0 is a division problem, and any division problem is also a fraction.
1
0

is not logical because a fraction is how many pieces of the whole there are. You cannot have 1 piece(s) of the "whole" 0.

So the answer is undefined.

0/0=INFINITY because infinite 0's can fit into 0. Same thing with 3/0. Infinite 0's go in 3. Let's try 0/3:

Code:

  0
3)0
 -0
  0

Zero 3's can fit in 0!

Re: I can divide by 0.

0
--  =  0
3
Because 3 goes into zero 0 times.

3
--  = UNDEFINED
0
Because there is no logical solution to the problem. No matter how many times you add 0, you will not get three. Therefore, it isn't even infinity.

Infinity is the same as no solution, some of you might argue. NOPE! Think of it in terms of graphing linear functions.

Let's say you are plotting two lines and are looking for the intersection. What would you call the answer to the problem if they are the same lines, right on top of each other? INFINITE SOLUTIONS
No matter what point on the line you pick, it will prove true for both functions.

On the other hand, what if the lines run parallel to each other? It can't be infinity. If I picked any point on either of the lines they wouldn't intersect there. So that means the answer is NO SOLUTION.

We know that no matter what you do, you can't have an answer for
3

0
Therefore, it is no solution.

I can.
Anything divided by 0 is VHDR%HCF HDR%DCFXTRH^YDE.

First off, the problem with your 'problem' here is that you say that since the mouths can't eat the apples, it's zero since there's no change in the amount of apples.  That's not actually true.  Since the apples 'need' to be eaten, it can't possibly be zero since 3/n such that n does not =0 can never result in an answer of zero.  The only division problem that can result in zero is when zero is the numerator.  Thus it is undefined, because the apples can't be eaten.  I believe that is one of the weirdest sentences I have ever typed.

i'm pretty sure youre going about that completely wrong

there are 3 apples, so haw many people do you have to get to eat 0 apples before all 3 are gone

in which case the answer is you can't

That fraction right there means 1.

1 fits into 0 0 times.

So if you do 1/0, you'd get 0.

Re: I can divide by 0.

6 divided by 2 is 3, so algebra claims 3 times 2 must be 6. 6 divided by 0 cannot be 0. 0 times one has to be 6. This works with any number.

Re: I can divide by 0.

Alright, lemme pull out the algebra behind it.

So let's start out like this:
6/2=3
Multiply both sides by 2 to get:
6=3x2

Now try it with 0:
6/0=X
X, since it is still unknown.  Now multiply by 0.
6=0X
But anything multiplied by zero is zero!  And 6 does not equal zero.  Therefore it is undefined.

No. If 1/0=0, then 0*0=1. That's IMPOSSIBLE. So 1/0 is undefined, because 0 multiplied by any number won't equal 1. Or you could say it is infinity, since you keep on multiplying 0 by larger and larger numbers, and never get 1. Or the technical definition of 1/0 is complex infinity. (???)

Re: I can divide by 0.

This is a useful analogy that usually clears things up: When you try to decide speed, you divide the distance you traveled by the time you did it in, right? So if you went 40 miles in 2 hours, that would be 40 miles / 2 hours = 20 miles per hour. What about dividing by zero in this case? That would be, for example, 1 mile in 0 hours. (1/0) But wait a second! You can't travel any distance in no time; it's impossible. In the same way, you can't divide by zero.

if you think better. 0/0 is 0.

Also, if you do 1 mile in 0 hours, it's fine. The score will be infinity.
