buy minecraft

both games have a reason to keep playing, a way to play with friends, and a massive fanbase
minecraft is more about creativity and hard work to build grand things
portal 2 is more about a great storyline and puzzles
i actually own both (portal 2 isnt out yet but i'm still excited), so my advice is to get portal 2 for your birthday and buy minecraft with your own money

No, creative mode is quite horrible. Survival is where it's at.

Minecraft. While Portal is thought to be very fun it's not infinite. Minecraft has an infinite world to explore which is really fun. You can also build giant structures like temples, house, and on multiplayer, even cities. You can also craft tons of items each with there own use. There's also mining which is fun, as there are loads of rare things to find and caves to explore. The animals and monsters are also really cool, like if you find a saddle in underground dungeons you can ride pigs.
So, yeah, in my opinion minecraft but it's really up to you.

Very good point, I always find myself quitting games because I already beat it.
I'm considering minecraft now.

I'm actually gonna say Portal 2 because although Minecraft is fun and infinite, Portal 2 is just slightly more fun and not infinite. If you buy Portal 2, you can wait until you finish, then buy Minecraft.

↑ they've got it right. Get both, buy Minecraft early so you get the discount, then buy Portal 2. I love the idea of Portal, and Minecraft is just one giant sandbox to play with.

Common misconception: Minecraft is popular for being a sandbox. I could rant about it but I'll link you . . . here: http://seanmalstrom.wordpress.com/2010/ … -the-year/ If I was satisfied with it being sandbox, I would be fine with classic, but once you read the part about emergent gameplay, you'll understand.
But Portal 2 sounds okay (i think it's like 60 dollars). Um, get Portal 2 so your getting something more expensive (whilst not paying) and then pool some of your allowance and savings toward Minecraft because it is DEFINITELY a good deal. Portal 1 was short, and I can't imagine playing that much Portal puzzle in a row so Minecraft never ends, and at a cheaper price it's a better deal, that you can more easily afford on your own.

Minecraft for sure.
Portal 2 sounds expensive. Minecraft still updates, and I don't think it's in its full price. So, even if you buy it currently, you'll get all the future updates. Do you want tamable wolves, creepers, and diamonds, or do you want... err.. whatever is in Portal 2? xD lol
