Java - I'm learning it, then helping Scratch out

Hey guys, I'm moving on.  I'm going to Java, after seeing what Notch did for Minecraft  and it really impresses me.  While I am only beginning, I am also having to cut back on time i spend on other things (Minecraft, Scratch, Wii, X-box 360, Youtube)  And the one i spend the most time on is Scratch.  This is now the only forum that i will post on for a month *Note:  This is obsolete if I get a laptop*.  I will ask for help here and post what i've done so far (Unless, after i get good, it's to sell games, which i will then donate some money to Scratch if I get over $50 (Half of every $50!) So yeah, help me and i will help Scratch!

Great idea!  big_smile

I know quite a bit of Java, so I could help if you get stuck or anything. When you're learning it, it takes a while to learn the concepts behind it, but once you've got through that, learning it as a language is actually not that hard.

Re: Java - I'm learning it, then helping Scratch out

I know....some.

It's been like, 3 years since I have done anything with Java. Transitioning back shouldn't be much of a problem after I get past JavaScript. I need to remember some Java for my AP course next year...anyone got any places to start?

Dude, if you are only going to use one forum make it a java focused forum.

Personally if you want to make games, I think that java is going to give you a really really hard time. I recommend  using AS3 with flashdevelop and flixel for games and "scratch style projects" because it is going to be a ton easier, have similar syntax, but still challenge you.

Or if you can get your hands on a copy of flash 8 or something like that you can use AS2 which is easily the most simple language to build games with.

Hi, I am Archmage coder extraordinaire. I do Scratch, pascal, java, php, html, AS2 and AS3. Leave me a message if you want coding advice. Also check out my personal website, lots of good stuff about web development, Flash, and Scratch (v1 and v2) !

Re: Java - I'm learning it, then helping Scratch out

a random money-making idea I came up with, you could use it if you want to be able to make money while giving choices:

There are three user types:

Free, No ads: A limited user, some features disabled.

Free, ads: A full user with all features, however ads make money. (only works if your ad service determines your pay by hits)

Paid, no ads: A full user with all features, pays a small amount (10>m>2).

Good luck!

Lua is a nice, easy programming language that is mostly used in games. http://lua.org/

if scratch got reallyyyyyyyyyyy popular and a famous user made a website with ads they could probably make quite a bit of money.

imagine having your job as making scratch games  yikes
