A Quick Lunar Magic Question

I've noticed how in a lot of Super Mario World hacks, people import custom graphics from other SNES games. Exactly how do you do this? I think it would really help me in the future.

I have NO idea, whenever I used Lunar Magic (Four, five years ago) all I knew to do was how to edit a level. That's it.
