Okay, that example doesn't sound bad, but what I'm trying to say is that there's a line where mods go from helpful to game-changing.

new mobs=not cheating

I used to use mods, but then I learned how much damage it can do to your jar file if you don't do it right. I use(d) WorldEdit with SPC (single player commands) but now I don't use WorldEdit because it is outdated. I used 303's arrows and grappling hook, Risugami's Shelves, TooManyItems, and iChun's portal gun. ALWAYS BACKUP YOUR MINECRAFT.JAR!

backing up isn't necessary anymore, now that you can force an update on your client.
and jhondo, notch has even said that the piston mod could become an actual part of the game.
