Windows XP
My old laptop had a bunch of BSOD's and I tried Linux, but it froze up. Talk about stuff that made you reinstall your OS.

Windows XP on my laptop was getting awfully slow and bloated, I started getting problems where it wouldn't POST after I installed a dual-boot. I recently formatted the entire hard drive and installed Ubuntu 10.10. It now runs beautifully for an old laptop with a 1.5 GHz dual core processor and 1GB of RAM. 
I have no idea if the POST issues were related to the dual boot, but it works fine now, so I really don't care.
