"In your own words, explain how this book makes you feel"

Three words for you.
Idolize that captivated, sickening man to death.
Man, you should have seen them kicking Edgar Allen Poe!
In terms of the greatest of literature, I'd have to say Charles Dickens' "A Tale of Two Cities" beats it for me. Mind you, I've never read it, but that first paragraph was captivating. I'll get around to it someday.
But in terms of captivating novels, the Harry Potter series is fabulous. I know it's not the greatest writing around, but the characters, themes, and plot are all absolutely fabulous.

The best things that literature could have asked for.
J.K. Rowling - The Harry Potter Series
J.R. Tolkien - The Lord of the Rings
C.S. Lewis - The Narnia Series
Christopher Paolini - Inheritance Cycle
Paul Stewart & Chris Riddel - The Edge Chronicles

How narcisstic! Just so you know, narcisim is quite the bad trait. Bothers people.
Anyway, for whatever reason, I like writing about books.
@ Alternatives I love all of those!

harry potter is like, an instant classic.
so if you read classics, why haven't you read harry potter? :'(
and coolstuff in my blatant, unchanging opinion, it is the greatest writing around.

You want good writing? Try Dune, His Dark Materials, or Foundation. All are written excellently. Harry Potter has great plot and everything else but it's eloquence isn't quite as good as these.

eloquence is not what im looking for, and thanks for recommending books.
i never read anything im recommended
and if eloquence is "the tender waves splash silently along the dull shore, as too shadowy figures stand there, looking out into the vast reaches of sky beyond them"
i don't like that i like Harry Potter's quick, to the point, style.
ANOTHER EDIT: Oh, no not that guy. I'm Christian.

Fine, not His Dark Materials. That is pretty anti-religion in general (not just Christianity).
Dune and Foundation are open though.
Actually, Foundation mocks religion a bit too.
Come to think of it, Dune kind of does too. But not too much. Shoot.
(They are all still REALLY good books, don't be put off by it)

I've read it, and it was okay. I mean, a bit, er, iffy.
I'm christian too. I just read it to see what they meant.
I caught their drift really fast.

Lord of the Flies. How could I forget that? I mean litterally (ironic?) it's unforgettable.
See also (lol): War or the Worlds, H.G. Wells.
Or Journey to the Center of the Earth, by-by- erm, let me get back to you on that.
