There are some people that annoy me and so an ignore list for forums would be cool.
They wouldn't show up for "recent posts", their posts wouldn't show up, and they wouldn't show up on the online list.
I really want this, because some people are really bugging me.

This would be cool.
Support'd.

Yeah, some people are bothersome.

I don't support. The Report button isn't there for nothing.

But you might miss out on part of the conversation (that has been blocked) and you would seem incredibly dumb and the same thing would be repeated over and over.

But the people I want to put on this list don't quite contribute to the conversation, and I don't care if I seem dumb as long as I don't have to deal with annoying posts.
@hardmath-the problem is, their post is only annoying to me (and maybe a few others), but still complies with the rules.
There's nothing wrong with their posts to others (except for a select few) but sometimes to me.

That is a problem.
If they were being quoted, it would show in the quote, maybe?

How about if posts by "ignored" people showed up in the topic...but only as a placeholder that you would have to click on to actually see? Then you could see if the conversation made sense without them and only read them if necessary. It still doesn't solve the quote problem though.
Maybe there is no easy technological fix in the unstructured text that makes up a post. Until we come up with something more organized, maybe we just need to work more on our social skills. Part of living in a social environment is learning how to tolerate people that we don't particularly like

As The_Dancing_Donut pointed out, it would be impossible to follow the conversation if half the posts were missing. There are some technological fixes that I suppose could be implemented, as Paddle2See suggested, but they'd just make the forums a confusing haven, and I really like the simplicity it has.

I said something useful! Yay!
@kayybee - I think here the best idea would be to just literally IGNORE the user. If you see their username, just skip the post.
In life, there are annoying people. You just have to ignore them and get on with life - focus on the people who contribute well, and have something decent to say.
@Paddle2See - The placeholder thing might work, but to ensure that your contribution was useful you would need to check the ignored user's posts anyway: defeating the object.
@coolstuff - Maybe, if a several users are finding other users annoying (not just a bit, literally making you want to quit) you should create a 'Report User' button, next to everyone's username. This would mean that if you found a particular user was being annoying/hostile/mean, you could send a message to the mods. If the allegations were true (the user was being annoying) a warning could be sent, asking for the user to be a bit kinder.
@scimonster - But you couldn't directly quote their post - I suppose you could see it if someone else quoted the annoying usr and you in turn quoted them... my brain hurts!
So yeah, I think a 'Report User' button would be more useful. That way, you don't miss out on parts of the conversation but if multiple users complain about another user, warnings can be sent and issues sorted out.

I completely agree to what Mr. Paddle said (as well as what Ms. Donut said).
As some random person said, "If nothing annoys you, you are not living in a free society". Everyone has his or her own views and opinions and we have to learn to respect them. We might not agree, but we cannot turn them down as if they were wood dust!
Some people are mode rude than others and those have to be tolerated -- to a certain extent. If they become openly malevolent, action needs to be taken. But a little tolerance never killed anyone before

That's exactly what the "report" button now does... You can get anything to a moderator's attention and we'll take care of it, including annoying users.

My vote: -0.5
Why a +0.5 from -1?
An ignore list is important. It would be very useful
Why a -0.5 from +0?
There would be a bug; as you know, the one mentioned above.
