Hey Coolstuff,
I'm aware you closed my topic and for good reason, politics. But! I'd like to point out that my original post did not involve politics, it was only a news story informing what was happening in the government. I feel there is a difference between news about the US government and political opinions and bias.
Also, if I were to post a similar topic, what should I change about it?
Just wanted to bring that up and if you could give me a well thought out response I would be very happy. Thanks!

It's wonderful that you're interested in the news (and with the upcoming Canadian federal election, I, too am thoroughly reading the newspaper each morning), and it's great that you'd like to share that news with us. However, given the political nature of the news, the resulting conversation could turn to other aspects of US politics, and it quite easily could then turn into an argument about the such a thing.
Does that make sense to you?

Right. Political topics tend to be total flamebait, no matter how sensitively put. In the end, they always seem to spiral out of control. It's unfortunate, but Scratch isn't really the best place for a political discussion anyway.

Of course. If I'd posted not to comment about the article below, do you suppose it would no have been locked?

Moderators moderate, which doesn't always mean CLOSE whenever there is a little problem... right?

Illusionist, I do agree. I've moderated several forums and administered one. I understand there are different protocalls on scratch but when something is potentially a problem, I'm familiar with adding into the conversation that 'if this becomes a problem it will be closed' instead of simply shutting it down when there have been no nasty or flame-bent comments. I see your reasons for closing Coolstuff although I do not agree entirely.

I'm sorry to hear you feel that way, but a policy is a policy, and our policy is to close topics that have a high likelihood of creating a flame war, which a political topic does.
