Local database

I've been holding off on suggesting this for some reason. I'm not sure why.

I was thinking it would be really helpful if, whenever you opened or started a new project, Scratch would allocate space for it in a local Scratch database. This could be used to store data without having to save the project. The current project's database could be shown as a watcher on the stage also. It would basically work the same way as a list, and maybe could even be treated as one.

As an extension to this, I was thinking that you could have a database on your Scratch account that the Flash and Java players could get data from, and (maybe) It could sync with the one on your computer every time you connect to the internet. (Although, if you have Scratch on multiple computers, it might not work very well). Also, I was thinking that, when you're making a gallery, you can choose whether the gallery should have a database or not. That way, all the projects in the gallery can access the database and share data. This could be extremely helpful for clutter projects, particularly OS's with apps in separate projects. The database would be viewable and editable by the gallery owner.

Re: Local database

I don't really get it, but sounds interesting. Is it like sharing information among projects in a gallery?

No, I think it saves information to the hard drive without having to press save.

If that's it, then I support as well.

Actually, it's both. Like I said, galleries can have their own database that can be used by all projects in it.

Re: Local database

I kind of support the gallery part of the idea.

It would be better if it was made simpler.
Here it is down to the bare minimum:

Every gallery could have a 'shared list', which would be usable in Scratch by the name of 'GalleryList'. The projects inside a gallery would have access to that specific gallery's list.

The gallery owner could update it whenever, and choose to allow others to edit it too (similarly to the current gallery permissions).

That's exactly what I was thinking  smile
